Hiya,

Working on my first build. Having trouble getting conclusive feedback on this subject.

My soon-to-be system is in my sig, take a look and please let me know what PSU I will need and why (if you can).

This and the case are the last two components I am stuck on so help will be greatly appreciated

I'd suggest getting a brand name PSU like Antec around 480W. You prolly wont need that much, but it will give you some head room, and it doesnt seem like you're on a budget so go for it.

I thrid the antec True Power 480. 550 is a bit overkill imo but if you want to go for it just do it. But the majority will still recommend the 480. It should be plenty for ya.

Since money obviously isn't a problem, why not just go for the beefiest one you can find, if nothing else for bragging rights?
Doesn't Fortron have a 660W ATX PSU?

The antec neo power 480w. It's 3.3v and 5v rails are slightly under the True Control 550 however it beats the crap out of everything on the 12v offering two seperate rails at 18a and 16a.

I recall even the lowly OCZ Powerstream 420 watt having 30A of power on the 12 V rail with the 470 and 520 models having even higher which should be plenty. Antec 480 is excellent. The TAGAN 480 is almost the exact same unit as the OCZ series except for the LED lights in the back I believe. Fortron 530 is excellent too in tests (on paper the 12 V is kinda weak). All those should be good enough like others have said. Since OCZ supports the new BTX format as well as looking awesome, i'd probably go for it even if its slightly more expensive. I read a review saying that even their lowest model is underrated and some manufacturers would rate it 500+ watts.

I'm using a Thermaltake 480W in my system (in signature). While everything has been fine, I do kind of wish I would have gotten bigger one.

Right on, thanks for all the input.

Being my first build, it is hard for me to tell what exaclty I wuold need. Especially when Ive read so much about how not to trust the listed specs cause they sometimes aren't true.

That, and AMD's section for recommended powersupply's for the f5-53 didnt help a whole lot.

Now for the case lol..too many damn choices for me.

Anything over 400 watts from antec or enermax is my suggestion. If it was me, I'd go with enermax'snew 470 watt, check out the review over at silentpc, they loved it.

I second the PC Power & Cooling suggestion. They make the best (if not, who is better?) PSUs on the market. You sure don't seem to be on a budget, so why not have the best PSU to power the precious FX-53 & 6800 Ultra

PC Power and Cooling 510 Deluxe

and Coolermaster CM-Stacker

You setup looks identical to mine substitute the 36 gb raptor for my 74 gb and diff optical drives.

I'm going with the 510 deleuxe simply b/c I have 2 HDD's and 3 opticals and will have around 9 fans in my CM-Stacker. I need the juice and want to be overkill.

best words of advice are: build it right, build it once (carried over from building turbo hondas) no need to waste money doing it over.

Do you have someone w/ some experience helping you out with this build? I"m hoping so, b/c you'd sure hate to wreck something when you're dealing w/ such expensive parts.

Hey guys, I don't mean to derail this thread, but I didn't want to start a whole new one.

I'm kinda in the same boat.

I'm currently running a Supermicro P4DC6+ motherboard with Dual 2.2GHz Xeon, 1GB of Corsair Rambus ECC, a GF4 Ti 4600, 5 Ultra 160 drives [18GB 36Z15, 2x36GB 73LZX (Raid 0), 9GB 18XL, 36GB 36LP] and 1 ATA100 120GB 20GXP, a DVR-A03, a Plextor 40x12x40x, and a SB Audigy 2 all in a Supermicro 760P4 full tower case with a 400w Redundant PSU.

I'm thinking of getting either the Pioneer DVR-108 or the NEC ND-3500a as my DL DVD Burner and getting a 6800 Ultra.. but my main concern is power requirements.

Since I have a workstation/server motherboard, the PSU I need has to be a ATX/EPS12v with 24pin, 8pin and a P4 connector.

Do I need to upgrade my PSU due to the 6800 Ultra and all my harddrives? And if so, What PSU should I get?

I know PC Power & Cooling offers a 510XE/EPS12V for Servers and Enermax makes a 660W (EG851 AX-VH(W)FM). Anyone know of any other PSU or recommendations?

Thanks!
