You could get a 3200+ or 3500+ and overclock it to 4000+ and/or FX-53 and beyond.

$849

SLI is nice, and that isn't too bad of a deal. (399 x2 ) $50 for the PSU. But just get a single GT for now. If you're not into overclocking then get yourself whatever CPU you want.

3000+ or 3200+ could save you a bundle.

Save yourself a few hunded for future upgrades.

You can't find a GT for 399 elsewhere. This is the cheapest way to buy two right now.

Does it have to be PCI - Express?

Ok the point here is that money is not an issue for this purpose. The cards come OC with a lifetime guarantee, and with the pair, and a 22-25" crt I should be good to game for a year or more.

So back to the original question Which is the better CPU?

FX53 if you want to utilize the unlocked multiplier~ If no plans to overclock,or will do extremely mild overclocking using ram then 4000+

but this is assumiing money is not an issue

But if it isn't...go FX-55 as those suckers overclock incredibly

The only difference between the 4000+ and the fx-53 is that the fx-53 is multiplier unlocked.

It doesn't matter. Most who OC do it by upping the FSB speed (like me). Yes, you can raise the multiplier, but you get to the same point by raising the FSB.
If money isn't the issue, go for the FX55 if available. Otherwise the 4000+ will be just fine.
As for the video cards, the 6800 Ultra OC is faster, or the same in most benchmarks than the SLI setup.
I'd go with the MSI Neo2 Platinum MB because it's a proven OCer, and a BFG 6800 Ultra OC.
If you do decide to go SLI, then I'd only do it if buying one 6800 Ultra OC, with the idea of buying another in a few months. That new DFI Lanparty board that was just reviewed on this site looks good.

ok im not planning to OC right out of the box, but I want to reserve the option to in the future. So what I am seeing here is that the FX-53 is better to OC? is the FX-53 similar in OC performance to the FX-55 or is there really a difference that would make it worth the extra 300 or so dollars to get the FX-55.

If I do OC the CPU and ram, it will probably be fairly mild at first, as I am sinking a rather large wad into this box, and I want to treat it nicely at first.

As for the dual GPU, I have read a couple of reviews, that at lower resolutions, there is not much of a performance boost, however, at resolutions of 1600x1200 and above, it makes a rather large difference. Since I am planning on getting at least a 21" monitor, and hopefully a 25" (provided I can find one I like) I will be playing at the higher resolutions.

for gaming you want a big screen, but not a wide screen. The wide screen will play games, but your images will look slightly distorted.

stick with a normal, not widescreen for games. There are 22" and 25" crt monitors out there, you just need to find one with good dot pitch, flat screen, and good resolutions.

Realistically you don?t need SLI to play games at the present or any titles that are coming in the next 12 months. Purchase the middle of the road or bottom of the line computer that let you play the game decently (I don?t think any game need much more than a $100 CPU to run), and a single 6600 is more than adequate for any game that you can throw at it at the moment. Keep your saving and sell this box in a year to upgrade to a better system for the new games.

thanks! that helps out allot.

yea need to find a resonable priced 22-25" monitor, if i am going to spend that much for a system, i might as well spend allitle more for the monitor.
