They will not produce FX53s anymore. When AMD releases an FX series chip they only make the newest one.

It is called overclocking the 3500+ 90nm on the 939 dual channel to 2600 and calling it a day.

I also notice that the FX-55 is consistently hitting 2800 or more on air cooling with the supplied heatsink. Does AMD have even another speedbin on 130nm if they so chose with their new strained silicon? I thought I saw that the FX-57 will be a 90nm part but I still find it interesting that people are getting 2800 on air. Water and phase change people must be drooling if they have the dough

The EE takes a whooping in gaming benchmarks, the 4000+ seems to earn it?s number over @ hardcop and even in some Lame/Encoding stuff the athlons win the majority of the tests. You?ve got to hand it to AMD for the K8, maybe there are some trouble with the numbering scheme and the slight lack of clock speed but that will come in time. Funny how the FX53 always seem to be a little ahead of the 4000+ even though they have the same specs. Hmm. Ah well we have a indication of how the 4200 + will perform since it will be 2.6 GHz, 512k cache most likely. I was going to buy a 3200+ NC which Zebo recommended me but I might hold out till Christmas ,see how the prices are. I think my 2000+ can hold just a couple more months.

BTW the EE is based on Gallatin core? (spelling), which in turns means its based on the northwood but with more cache ? (a xeon). I think the Nocona based EE if there is one might claw back some pride but I doubt the FX line will be toped anytime soon.

With Intel not going to 4ghz, I think AMD should release a 2.6 Ghz 4200+ and leave it at that, perhaps beef up current offerings, such as all Winchester with 1 MB cache but that will only add confusion to the picture and right now there?s paint everywhere, I mean can anyone justify buying a 4000+ ( $700) over 2.4 Ghz 3400+ ($380) ???

I would vote yes. Somebody already started one thread in forum issues on this. Maybe if enough people (other than me, I am Felixes favorite hate object) would start the thread, I would agree again. I am sick of the FUD, and it has gome way beyond that, usually with personal attacks. Just watch and see how he replies to this (and I didn't even start it)

Im curious as to why the FX series hasn't switched to 90nm. THat should provide a bit more speed, less heat and less power consumption. Intel isn't doing so hot, im interested to know if they will modify their road map. I really want to see a new architecture, like ditch netburst and switch to a new one. That would make things interesting!

intel is diching netburst in my opinion. they originally had netburst cpus in their dual core roadmaps, but due to the fact that they can't get many 3.6 chips at all, how do you expect them to get something dual core that outperforms it? it would probly need to be at least 2x 2.4 to get the same performance of a 3.6 in average multithreaded apps( i know this varies, but who will pay twice as much if most apps, like games, don't benefit) even 2 presscots at 2.4 produce more heat than a 3.6.

intel will surely move it's performance desktop chips over to dual core dothans with higher bus. these, which can run at the full speed of the dothan line without heat problems, will definately outperform any dual presscotts slow enough that they can put in the same core
