I currently have an FX-55, however, I'm thinking of selling it and buying an X-2. I do a fair bit of multitasking, however I mostly game. Also, I currently run my fx-55 at 3.1, so I would have to at least get 2.8 out of an X-2. Any thoughts?

FX-55 is very fast, almost as fast your urge to part with your hard earned money. You should be good in the CPU department for awhile, so I would either save the money or buy something else cool.

no X2 you get will ever do 3.1

if game is your thing stick with the fx55.

if you crave multitasking, then just get a dual core opty and overclock it to 2.8 (less frames in games tho, guaranteed).

If you absolutely have a hard-on for an X2, wait for the FX62 (which will be clocked at 2.8GHz) and go that route. Otherwise, you're fine (take it from someone with an FX57@3.2).

True, True... The dual core stuff really only makes sense for massively multithreaded applications right now, like database software. Most games simply aren't optimized for it yet.

How about an Opteron 165, oc it and watercool it. I think that's still cheaper than a FX-60. Opteron is ~$300 + a $300-400 wc set up. You can even cool a GPU and push the clock on the opteron a bit further.

I run phase cooling. My fx-55 would be running higher, but ATM I have the worlds worst OCing fx-55. I'm gonna stick with the FX for now, but the upgrade itch is strong....

Yeah, but for that much money I could buy a new methanol chiller.

Some people have poor reading comprehension. We can't hold it against them.

FX-55 is a good multitasker. You probably won't be too impressed when you actually run the dual core CPU compared to the FX-55, I just don't see any real reason why you can't appreciate the cache and "enchanted" instruction sets that already come equipped with that expensive 55 CPU.

It all depends on what AMD X2 you might be talking about.

If you are looking at getting ax FX-60 or 4800+ then I would say ditch the FX-55. IF you are going to buy a 3800+ or 4200+ then I would say Keep the FX-55.
