The 4800 is already a fast single core solution, just that now it can also perform fast in multi-threaded applications. I've heard that it makes the windows experience much better, and you will get more performance in games due to the lack of background tasks annoying gaming performance. Later it will also give you extra boost/stuff in games due to dual core support.

Plus I can justify the price over a super expensive single core solution.

Honestly, the days of single core are over. Look at the roadmaps, because im pretty sure software developers are.

Mickey21, maybe you have a few years, but I got you beat by 23 more. And I agree that the X2 is the way to go today, and the days of the single core are numbered.

I am not trying to convert anyone. Just stating a fact that however good the X2's are, they are not the best at GAMING at this time...

wrong, in my opinion, l own an fx55, dual blows it, get one and test it yourself both cores run in most non programmed games lve run. Then online gaming the dual SMASHES the fx55, keep your 8 fps in your fx, the game runs better under dual core bf2 is a good eg, prove me wrong when you dont have a dual ?
Its crap, fx cpu s are just bench overclock cpu s, they do multithread, they can run media player and fraps at about 60 to 80 fps in bf2 the dual obviously can smash it under them loads, my piont being the fx cpu online is behind the 8 ball off dual core cpus, for online gaming, keep it for hl2 ,the bottleneck is more likely the video card in mosts pcs, but when you free it up like mine, a gtx7800, then bottleneck becomes the fx cpu, bite me but the dual is just better for everything in general..............
you who dont have one are usually the non believers, time will convert you !

Just use them to verify overclocking speeds and settings, then I set it and forget it. I only really know the scores because I spent about 3 days overclocking my system for best performance and obviously paid off.

In the end I received a system that scores 25400 (FX-57 - SLI 7800GTX's) in the same scripted run (they ran the system there to see if anyone would challenge them). I competed in the single GPU category, but the dual GPU category would win an identical system but Intel EE processor based (that scores 20800 - even with DUAL SLI 7800GTX's). Not bad, my single GPU system can beat the fastest Intel based system with SLI Alienware produces. All of them watercooled BTW...

My single vid card score in 3DMark05 is faster than yours and your FX-57 series - and that is a benchmark under "perfect" conditions.

I can game all night long at 2900mhz, and actually more if I wanted to increase voltage more. Heck, even running at "only" 2.8ghz, I could beat your best 3DMark05 score. I would also smoke you at PCMark05, most likely - and crystalmark probably too. These are just benchmarks though- in REAL games, ONLINE, my lead would only increase over your "gaming CPU".
