They could be holding back, they said they saw no need for a 4200+ part, but it would be nice to see a san diago 2.8 Ghz FX part soon..

Or their could be yeild problems ( I dont believe that)

Its been 7 months since the 55' ripped up the scene...

Thoughts ?

very true .. the 4400+ and the 4800+ are like two fx57's, but with lower clocks, although i will be buying one of the two (depends on how much cash i have nearer the time) and hopefully hit an OC above 2.8 (now that would be sweet).. i am still debating whether to go the water route with the X2 when OCing .. i dont know if my XP90 wil hold out with the increased heat out put .. hmmm

AMD is probably playing hte waiting game. They don't even need a FX chip right now...Intel can't really compete with AMD in gaming, and it's spotty in other applications with the Penitum D/X. So, what's the point? IMO, a dual core release is more important than a uber single core release.

I agree...If rumors have it the X2 launch (in spite of the INtel fanboys dreams of short superiority in something) is weeks away from places like monarch and other retailers. Since unlike Intel there isn't a big wait for manufacturers of mobo to get new chipsets out AMD has really been able to ramp up the launch..how have they done this?? It is obvious they have sacrificed these other chips momentarily to facilitate this....What do they need an FX57 for when intel single core line is done and nothing will compete with it in the high-end gaming where the FX is supposed to conitune to reign....

All the marbles it appears were and are going to ramped up realeases of dual core opterons in 800 series and 200 series, X2's from 4200+ to 4800+....The fcat that ppl can use existing 939 platform makes it all the easier....

Yep! I would much rather them hold back the single core releases and ramp up production on dual core...

I'm still excited about the fact that all 939 boards will support dual core!

I heard socket M2 is 940 pins and socket f is 1207 pins. I my 4000 pwns the FX-55. Looks like I have to get off my ass and due some more ocing before I reach FX-57 speeds. It should be easy though, considering my 4000 has a san diego core.

whats with all the geographical locations and cities being named as cores? i guess its better than intel's names. they should go to cool names like guns (winchester) call it, AK-47.

no need for FX-57; No need to compete when you are the best. If they introduce 57, the rest of the chips' prices will fall, and there is no actual need for such processor.

AMD is enjoying being on the top. No longer are they on the ofensive side.

I wouldn't. I don't do that much multitasking, if I were, I'd have an Opteron rig.

What's confusing?

Multitasking? Opterons.
Not? FX57.

Hell if you're spending that much money on a 57 an Opeteron setup would make sense. I guess not?

Thought I saw the FX-57 on newegg yesterday, but went to order it and I got an error. Went back and the item was gone again.

Don't know if someone was just messing around or what.
