Hello Everyone. I got a AMD FX-6100 cpu, running on a Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard. I cant seem to find a good OC for it. At the moment im running 1.26250V and 3.795Mhz. CPU Bus/PEG Freq. is at 230. When i try to increase them, it never works. I went to my BIOS to check, and the AI Overclock Tuner was set to manual, and the Turbo Mode was activated. If i set mode from Manual to DOCP, i cant leave the oc of my ram. at DOCP the minimum ram-Mhz is 1600Mhz, and atm i only have 1x4Gb 1333Mhz that isent even mine (Going to buy Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz 8Gb kit, or 1866Mhz 8Gb kit. Witch one buy the way?). Why cant i oc my cpu manually without oc'ing the ram too? at this "auto-pc" i have atm, i got the settings mentioned above, but i want to go 4000Mhz+. Anyone here that could help me with my problems, and maybe tell me a good OC ?

You can set your ramm divider lower and keep your ramm speeds low. That will allow you to push your FSB speed as far as you can without the ramm speed limiting you. I always thought the AMD systems did well with high speed ramm. My PII x6 is running at 3.5-4.0 at 245MHz FSB with 4x2gb 1600Mhz sticks quite nicely.

Good luck, hope you can pull of your OC when you get some good ramm in there. at $55 the 1866 ramm looks like a no brainer, as they are cheap as could be.

Looks like you are running on a 16.5x multiplier. Why don't you see about turning that up and and pushing the FSB down?

You don't have to up the CPU bus to 230. Leave it at 200 and up the CPU multiplier. Your FX CPU has an unlocked multiplier. And you HAVE to up the voltage to get higher speed.

You don't need to play with the FSB. I don't even touch it and I'm at 4.0 Ghz.

Remember you need more voltage when you have higher clocks.

Overclock.net - there is a long thread about the Sabertooth board - lots of info and people that are familiar with the board .. link .. http://www.overclock.net/t/1035333/official-asus-sabertooth-990fx-owners-club

Another thread that has quite a bit of info on the Bulldozers .. link ..http://www.overclock.net/t/1139726/amd-fx-bulldozer-owners-club

You can overclock the CPU by raising the FSB as well as the multiplier - I am at a FSB of 240 and a multiplier of 17.5 = 4200 MHz - Voltage at 1.375. This is with a sabertooth and a FX6100. I am in the minority with having turbo enabled but I have it set set to 19.5 ~=4700MHz.

I struggled with my overclock as I do this infrequently and it took some trial and error but I'm completely prime stable now. I'm not really confident enough myself to be dishing out much advice on this though. Try those links at overclockers if you don't get the information you need here.

EDIT: While in the bios, when you are in DOCP, the bios option immediately below DOCP is for your DRAM OC profile - set this accordingly, a few lines below this in the bios is an option to set your memory frequency - you can lower the memory frequency here if needed. I am using 1600 memory, it would be much higher (with the FSB raised) if I didn't do this final adjustment

Yeah, I'd overclock with the multiplier rather than the FSB if you're not very experienced with overclocking (or just want to take the easier route). That will make it a lot easier with the RAM, since you won't even have to worry about it. My FX6100 also needs around 1.42-1.45V to hit 4.3GHz stable (have yet to narrow the voltage requirement down). It's a bit on the higher side, but not uncommon for these chips. You just need to make sure you have good cooling.

I would go so far as to say that FSB overclocking is useless when you can just bump up the multiplier.

I believe that I've seen FSB overclocking benefit multimedia encoding.
However, that was with a C2Q, before most of the northbridge got integrated onto the CPU. I think that the same results could be achieved through CPU-NB overclocking on AMD CPUs.

blckgrffn what you mean with updating my sig? nooot thaat experienced with oc'ing and all this yet (everybody needs to learn, right?)

Anyways, im looking to see if someone can help me maybe making a complete OC setup for me. Im looking to get about 4Ghz -> 4.4Ghz (not more, dont think my cooling can handle it).

and by the way, i foud out my Bios "manual OC setting" problem. At every "box" around the CpuBUS was selectable by enter, and in the CPU Bus box it said Auto. When i accidentaly hit my numbad while looking in bios, it was actually alot easyer. I just need to type it in. lol

I know this thread is old, but I'm getting so sick of all the misinformation about this on the internet. The FX 6100 scales BETTER when you increase the FSB reference clock, bench mark test are remarkably better when scaling up with the FSB and the multiplier, as long as you remember to bring your ram down. I would go so far as to say you don't know what you're talking about and have never done what you are going so far as to say.
