Along with a 8800GTS/640MB it runs every current game very well on my 22" LCD so I don't see any reason to upgrade to some dual core for little to no advantage. Even the games that supposedly have dual core optimizations are not really gaining much by it yet that a fast single core can't do just as well or better than a lower clocked dual core. Maybe things will change when Crysis comes out and I will finally have a reason to upgrade, but I doubt it. I am sure some business applications gain speed by having dual core, but somehow I have managed to even do word processing on a single core + if you can believe this... a spreadsheet at the same time!

I just bumped my mutli up to 14 too! An quick and easy overclock. Have you been able to get your chip up past 2.8? I've tried knocking the multi up to 15 with no success.

My FX55 will do 2.9 GHz but it runs so much hotter than at 2.8 that I don't feel it is worth pushing it that hard. 2.6 to 2.8 did not increase the temp hardly at all. I know it can't do 3.0 totally stable in all games.
don't waste your money on the opteron 185. I blew my k8n neo 4 platinum trying to upgrade from fx55 to opteron 180. Just use the fx55 at 2.8 until you start having problems and do a complete upgrade. If you're lucky you'll be able to hold out until nehalem...I wish I had been disciplined enough to do that.Originally posted by: Zaitsev
I got in on the newegg deal as well, but now I'm bitter about not going dual-core. My problem is that I'm having trouble justifying a $235 Opteron 185 when an E6850 can be had for $280. Ugg.

I can get 2970 at ~1.48V in the winter, but it just runs too hot for that voltage year round.
