fx5700LE PCI or Radeon 9100 PCI?

Hi,

My wife's computer does not have an AGP slot in her computer and the integrated video is crap. I wanted to know which video card is better? Nvidia 5700LE pci or ATI 9100 pci? Thanks.

Does she want the card for gaming? Cuz PCI cards are too slow for any modern game, but between those two, I'd choose the 5700.

the 5700LE, it's faster, you can overclock it pretty easily too, although why you'd overclock a PCI card?

I found out that the 5700LE pci has a 64-bit memory bus compared to the 128-bit on the 9100 pci. Would that make a difference in the speed of the card? Or the 5700LE would still be faster?

More of role-playing games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, etc... No games that are graphic intensive. This is her rig,

Sony Vaio
Pentium 4 2.8
1 gig RAM
100 gig MaxtorHD 7200rpm w/8mb cache
Audigy 2 sound card

Note: the CPU, RAM, and Sound Card were hand me downs from my old computer.
The only thing I didn't upgrade on her computer were the hard drive, motherboard, and case.
She doesn't want to change the case, so...I can't upgrade the MOBO so it can have an
AGP slot for a better video card. So that's why I'm looking for the best PCI card right now.

Let me guess, she's got a Dell, right? In any case, it's a damn shame that a P4 2.8 has to be saddled with a PCI video card, but if she doesn't want a new case, what can you do?

I've been down this road a couple of times, and for the types of games you listed, the 9100 PCI will definitely be the better card. In a fair contest (given a 128-bit 5700LE and 5600), a normal 5700LE is comparable in speed to a normal 5600. In the PCI world, the 9100 is similar in performance to a 128-bit 5600 PCI. Given that the 5700LE is a 64-bit card, the 9100 should eat it for lunch.

To answer your question, going from a 128-bit card to an identical card with a 64-bit interface cuts the performance down almost by half.

I own a Sony PCVRS310 2.4 Ghz P4 with 768 MB of memory. It has AGP hardware on the motherboard, but no AGP slot soldered onto the motherboard, even though they have a spot for one. What where they thinking?

I use an ATI 9100 PCI with 64MB memory. It got a 3DMark2001 SE score of 8295 marks.

I have only had a few minor problems running the latest games, mainly having to do with minor graphic settings adjustments.

I bought mine back in July. 9100's are very had to find, but from all the reviews I've seen on the web, the Price and Performance beats any other PCI available.

I paid $53 US for mine.

I tried the Conquerer NVidia 5200, which tends to run pretty fast but very hot (not a good sign). I also tried the ATI 9200 256, 9200 SE 128, and the 9250. None ran as well as the 9100 with only 64MB, because they are either dumbed down or slowed down or memory path limited 9100's. The 9100 ran cool, and overclocks easily, and beat them all.

Compatible, yes. Compliant, no. So it'll work with games that "require" a DX9 video card, but it won't offer DX9 effects.

My friend is in the same situation. I was wondering what it would take to get a AGP card in his computer. Im thinking he would just need a new case, mobo, and an AGP card, right?

I was going to buy him the 9100 but it went out of stock this morning and I cant find it anywhere else. Would it be smarter to leave out a 512 stick of ram and buy a mobo and case instead?

if it's 64 bit, get the 9100, memory bandwidth is really important.

We always stay about a year behind the curve anyway. Cool games waste my time, but I won't let them waste my money also. I wait until they are CHEAP.

Does anyone know if they made an ATI 9100 with 64MB? Everyone says the ATI 9100 with 128 is the best PCI card to have. I have an ATI 9100, but I bought it so long ago, I can't remember if it's 128 or not. It doesn't tell that info when you look the card up in the device manager..

The only thing is that its's a low profile. If it s a low profile, does it mean they took out some components to make it a low profile? Or does it mean they just compacted the components closer together to make it a low profile?

So...Would this card be superior to the Radeon 9100 PCI?
