My worthless opinion is that I'd rather burn out a $200 cpu than a $1200 one. If I was buying a $1200 one, it wouldn't be off of Ebay for certain, might want to get that one from a solid vendor with bullet proof warranty.

I made a huge mistake buying a Sony GDM-F500 21 inch .22 CRT monitor for $1800 about 7 years ago. It lasted all of 5 years and burned out, Sony service was a joke, they couldn't have cared less. It was the poop at the time but ended up being THE WORST buying decision of my life.

All I can say is when buying high dollar electronics, get the best warranty you can.....

a fx55 which is 2.6 ghz 1 meg L2 is around 800ish.

so you're getting 2 FX-55s for the cost of a FX-57 (which is around 1100).

and these are hitting 3 ghz so...

So, lets compare processors.
Opteron 165: ~$315ish, Overclock: ~2.8-3.0ghz depending on stepping
FX-60: ~$1200, Overclock: ?? ~2.8-3.2ghz?

Now, I'm not sure of he FX-60 max overclock, so I guessed. But which one would you pick considering the prices.

At $1500, his sellers fees are going to be pretty high. I am assuming he's rolled that into shipping costs. (shipping AND handling fee)

if i had the money, i'd buy it.

why not? you're guaranteed 3.0 ghz+ dual core!

but of course this is just wishful thinking.

the thing with the 165 is that there is no guarantee of it hitting 2.8 to 3.0.

i'd like to see consistent 2.8 to 3.0 results.

if it were that consistent, i woulda bought one a LONG time ago.

FX60 doesn't guarantee 3.0GHz, either.
Granted, it should clock better than 165 but for $1,500? Heh.. I'm sure someone will buy though!

*bangs head against wall* Dude. You aren't guarenteed 2.8GHz with any opteron. Hell, most of them now aren't hitting 2.8GHz, much less 3.0+. If I had a huge ammount of disposable income, I'd buy one of these and stick under a peltier or LN2 or something, get 3.6+ out of it.

That works out to be around £850 for me due to exchange rates.

I personally have given up on that race (well, sort of) since my purchase of 2 GTX 512s. I don't think I'll spend that kind of money again on hardware.

Yeah it does hurt a bit after the honeymoon period, when the manufacturer releases something better, in a short period of time. Anyway I want to start saving to buy a new car

I think the only real point in buying or spending that much on an FX chip (and if your plan is to OC it), is just to put it on phase and get the true potential from the high yield silicon, this way you will still get bang for the buck but on the larger more expensive scale. Otherwise you might aswell just buy a 165/146 etc and have alot more fun purchasing something relatively cheap and then OC it so its on par with the top spec chip, and be satisfied with what you have. For instance i have a stock FX60 now if you look in my sig from my 165, although i did pay £340 when it first came out .

You can bet thats an engineering sample, and if AMD can find out who the seller is they won't be getting any more.
