I used to be an MAC owner and I believe Steve Jobbs and his team always had
a way of marketing their CPU's (Gigaflops...I think). Now that I think about his
marketing quest, he can not keep up with the everchanging IT world! Let's face
it, MAC's are being marketed toward educational (somewhat graphical) purposes. This
is sad, because I really thought that Apple had a chance to emerge as a big and important company
against Intel/Microsoft. That was about 5 years ago that I really liked my MAC. Now
as I look at Apple today I look at their computers as a one and done computer. No
way of upgrading toward future pheriphals. Barely have PCI slots and expansion slots
for upgrades (based on their new IMAC's). Also to combine this theory with a hefty
price. You don't nearly have the flexibility than you do with PC's. Add this with limited Downloadable
software and you have a computer worth over $2500-$4000 with limited capabilities.

Now reality has sinken in Take A Look At This Article!

This is a very informative article that give you an idea of the performance yout get with
MAC's. It's ashame that they could not push themselves to compete with the PC market.
Although you to give them credit for pushing one the simplest GUI interfaces, in which aspires
many generations of MS Windows.

Tell me what you think!

I think apple should port OS X for AMD hammer cpu. I would love to use OS X. But other then that I have no interest in mac hardware. here isnt anything there I think worthy

except for their cinema display.

I would like to see Apple merge with MS for a dual OS all in one bundle
software. I hope this happens within the future. Gates can afford to
do this! He can buy Apple if he wants. However, a monoply would be
created and also their has to be a focal point of business or compeitition
within the computer market.

However, the AMD and MAC OS X would be an awesome idea! I love
the GUI interface!

OSX is nice, I am happy enough with Win2k however. I will never purchase a mac for the following reasons:

1. I like piecing together my computers - While possible with a mac it is more difficult.

2. I like gaming - Many games do not play on macs or take 6+ months or longer to be ported to macs.

3. I like gaming - Many of the sound cards and video cards perform poorly on macs due to poor drivers

4. Money - They cost too damn much.

5. I don't want to "think different" - I think just fine as it is thank you!

<< I used to be an MAC >>

why are you spelling it in all caps?

<< owner and I believe Steve Jobbs and his team always had a way of marketing their CPU's (Gigaflops...I think). >>

yes their marketing team is funny.

<< Now that I think about his marketing quest, he can not keep up with the everchanging IT world! >>

?

they have. just because a company is not 50% of the market does not mean they haven't done anything. they are not stupid, and obviously dont want to go for the low end comsumer area. if they did, they wouldnt' charge 1300 for a "low end" machine.

<< That was about 5 years ago that I really liked my MAC. Now as I look at Apple today I look at their computers as a one and done computer. No way of upgrading toward future pheriphals. Barely have PCI slots and expansion slots for upgrades (based on their new IMAC's). >>

right, they are meant to be simple, as usual. you think your grandma, or joe video-editor or whoever, wants to install a RAID card?

<< Also to combine this theory with a hefty price. >>

yeah, the price sucks. no arguing that.

<< You don't nearly have the flexibility than you do with PC's. >>

you're not supposed to. the first version of mac os didnt have the flexibility of BSD but they were totally different things. same deal today. (well...macos and bsd arent really different things anymore, but you catch my drift.)

<< Add this with limited Downloadable software >>

i dont think so. just because you cant install WinRAR or your favorite windows shareware icon editor or something hardly means that there is no software. on top of that, if you are comfortable with using the command line, you can compile alot of standard GNU/BSD/unix/etc apps.[/i] >>

<< and you have a computer worth over $2500-$4000 with limited capabilities. >>

limited capabilites for some people, sure. but not for others. windows is pretty damn limited but people just love it to death.

and to add to all that, OSX is DAMN nice. it has a great (i.e. familiar ) command line environment (cmon, vi, nmap, etc ), a great looking gui, great multimedia stuff, and it is partly open source. it is a really good OS, leaps and bounds ahead of winblows.

ok enough bickering from me.

I used to talk trash about macs all the time, I don't anymore.

OSX is sweet (don't have a mac, but have seen it in action) and powerbooks are fvckin incredible, I'de kill for one!!!

Anyways... the market is different. BingBong is right, Apple shouldn't cater to the lower market, they have targetted and successfully IMO cornered the people that are willing to pay lots of money to have a nice computer system out of the box, one that will look good with their IKEA furniture or whatever.

PC's, overclocking and benchmarks are for kids. If you look at the majority of the people who surf this forum, and other forums like it, the people that argue about 5% performance or whatever, you're looking at a bunch of hooligan brats
There are a lot of people out there who couldn't give a damn about the stuff that we give a damn about, and Apple has successfully taken them into the fold and milked them for their ca$h.
Now, for the rest of us, the rest of us that like to fiddle with heatsink (thanks Creedawg, best packaging ever ) and drivers, and periferalals (sp? ) .. it's harder to sell a mac to the likes of us. If I had the money though, I'de buy a car, if I had more money, I'de make a downpayment on a house, if I had more money I'de get some hookers and coke and if I had yet more money .. I'de get a powerbook G4!

Macs are cool, they shouldn't port OSX to X86 because then it would turn into windows .... third party hardware = driver bidness that I bet apple would rather not get into.
Of course, you can argue that open source to the rescue!!! People will write modules .. maybe, but then OSX wouldn't be a nice family/easy to use thing.... you'd have to compile modules for your computer etc etc... I think I'm done now.

I think the fact that mac exists is a good thing. I think osx is a cool o/s (much better than windows) and
I believe (when I have the $$) I will purchase a mac (maybe an ibook/powerbook). The competition aspect
is also important, because competition brings advancement tenfold.
