Free Macrium says Free Reflect will be retired as explained near the bottom of Link.

It's a little confusing. Mid-page they explain "extended support" for v. 8 until till a year past whenever in future they release Reflect v. 9. I think this is about the paid version only.

Then lower on that same page they say "Macrium Reflect Free Product - End Of Life (EOL)."
Free version being retired. No more free after v. 8. Alas!

Does it matter? I'm still using Reflect V6 (the paid one). I see no need to upgrade, since all it does is backup and restore. What more do you need?

And if you use windows, the built in "Backup and Restore" works just fine, and a LOT faster the Macrium, at both creating and restoring images.

I haven't used it in a long time but does the windows backup have the ability to completely restore OS/data/settings if a drive is completely wiped? In my understanding, you've always had to use a 3rd party program to do that and Macrium is quite good for that. It's saved me when I had a drive failure.

Yes it does, you create a system image. I haven't had to use a third party program since Win7 came out.

I see it now... I like more options like compression and being able to restore individual files, but creating a system image sounds like it would work if you want just a normal backup. Not sure if it only applies to C: or other drives as well....

I always thought that they should have something more like apple does with Time Machine built in to windows.

I bought a license (v8) for our home systems. Backup to a NAS. Works find with Win11, so it'll last years. I don't mind paying for good software that useful for years. Not fond of the new subscription plans.

The image is compressed somewhat. My current 40GB insall creates a 32GB image. And you can restore individual files as well.
You just attach a VHD in Disk Management. There are instuctions online.
And you have the option to image all drives in your system, except the one you are writing to.
