Thought I would share power numbers of a new 6850 gfx card installed in my PC.
I haven't played games for a while, and had been just running with integrated graphics. I recently found a couple of games that have held my interest, and so the upgrade to get better quality graphics for game play.
Before the new card:
AMD 95W Phenom II 945 (3GHz)
AMD 790GX Motherboard
4x 2GB RAM (8GB total)
64 GB SSD
250GB 7200 RPM HDD
1TB 5400 RPM HDD
Themaltake 500W Power supply
Idle: 80-85 Watts
Load: 120-130 Watts
With the card (Sapphire 6850)
Idle: 120-ish Watts
Load: 270+ Watts (although I think I looked over and saw 300+ at one point)
Note: Measurements are with a kill-a-watt meter at the plug.
