Thought I would share power numbers of a new 6850 gfx card installed in my PC.

I haven't played games for a while, and had been just running with integrated graphics. I recently found a couple of games that have held my interest, and so the upgrade to get better quality graphics for game play.

Before the new card:
AMD 95W Phenom II 945 (3GHz)
AMD 790GX Motherboard
4x 2GB RAM (8GB total)
64 GB SSD
250GB 7200 RPM HDD
1TB 5400 RPM HDD
Themaltake 500W Power supply

Idle: 80-85 Watts
Load: 120-130 Watts

With the card (Sapphire 6850)
Idle: 120-ish Watts
Load: 270+ Watts (although I think I looked over and saw 300+ at one point)

Note: Measurements are with a kill-a-watt meter at the plug.

Exactly what card were you using prior to the 6850 ?

Yes, the total power at load look exactly spot on. But I'd be surprised if going to the HD6850 added 25-30 watts at idle. I also think it would be hard to test a serious game, which would be needed to load the HD6850, on integrated graphics. So the 150w jump probably isn't quite right, or at least it's not all attributable to the GPU.
