Bullsh*t. Activision never said the game is delayed until 2005. If you followed idsoftware at all you would know the game is almost complete. A summer release is probably right on track but 2005 is out of the question.Originally posted by: Solema
You apparently still don't get it. The game is NOT being released on March 1, or even close to that date. Activision has already said that it is delayed till 2005. Are retailers making and releasing the game, or the developer and publisher? "Well Amazon.com says they'll have it, so I believe them!" Last time I checked, I thought Activision was publishing the game, not Amazon.com. Am I mistaken? Clearly a retailer has never had incorrect or non-updated release dates. :/

If it's delayed until 2005 why are the pre-order boxes with figurines in Gamestop stores and for order on Amazon? You are reading into a rumor created by net nerds incorrectly interpreting an Activision financial memo.
Best Buy has pre-order boxes in their store as well, I highly doubt a company as large as BB would screw themselves by selling preorders for this game more than a year before it comes out..

Doesn't sound like they want to delay it to me.In order for those coders to get crankin', though, the game has to come out. "Early ads said that Doom 3 was coming in 2003," says Id CEO Todd Hollenshead, "but we knew that probably wasn't going to happen." People are getting anxious, though?anxious enough to distribute the game early. A year ago, the E3 build was leaked to the public, and the recent news of the Half-Life 2 source code leak brought up some painful memories.

It's simple, really. The preorder boxes are out because Activision sent them out before they moved the release date back. What are they gonna do, make every retailer send them back? Of course not. That link you posted has a relevant link to GamesIndustry.biz about Activision's decision. I quote them:
"For planning purposes, the company has also moved the release of Doom III out of fiscal 2004 and into 2005 - which probably doesn't mean much since we doubt Activision knows any more than we do about when the game will arrive, given developer id's legendary phobia of release dates, but does confirm that it's unlikely to ship before next April."
If id was "almost done" with it, why would Activision have any reason to do that? I am not entirely sure how reputable GamesIndustry.biz is, but I first read about this in several gaming publications including the latest issue of GamePro. Did GamePro, GamesIndustry.biz, and the others make the information up as well? They must have, because clearly Amazon must know more than they do!

even if it is postponed for a long time, it will definately be out in time for christmas, they can't lose out on those dollars
Valve got sued by Havok (the makers of their physics engine) because the HL2 + Havok source was leaked back in October. They need to settle their lawsuit before they can release HL2. The HL2 SDK is due out very soon which means the HL2 release is probably imminent. Plus they are using the time to beef up Steam. They just switched to a new ISP which is further indication that HL2 will be released RSN.Originally posted by: rcraig
This was also said about HL2 and it's still not out. Hopefully Activision's "2005 fiscal year" starts in a few months. I'm eagerly awaiting Doom3 and HL2 to be released and it seems I've been waiting for the next installment of Duke Nukem for like forever.
