I'm big on the "science lesson" of cooking and seeing the process of not only how something is done, but why. I used to watch Bill Nye & Beakman when I was a kid so it's no surprise the science nerd in me likes Alton.
You guys below the line may not get this show, but Heston Blumenthal (one of the best chefs in the world) does an awesome show called In Search of Perfection. It's not quite as, well odd/strange/quirky as Alton's show, but it does a great job of blending some science and amazing cooking.
