I've had the gigabyte g1 gaming 980 and then MSI 970's in SLI. I prefer the MSI mainly for the fan off feature as I water cool my rig. The G1, while quiet, was definitely more noticeable at idle noise wise and was also slightly louder while gaming. To me, the price difference isn't worth it. You may have more o/c headroom with the gigabyte as it has much more robust VRM setup that allows it to draw much more power than reference cards. My particular 980 went up to 1525 boost or so. However, the latest scuttlebutt is reporting that the newer revision of the G1 gaming has a cheaper power controller setup that doesn't o/c as well as the initial release.
