G400MAX or G450?

I'm going to get one of these for "testing purpose's". I am going to get whichever one is faster in games, and has the best 2D/3D and compare it too my GTS, visual and performance wise. I used to have a G400 and I loved it, until I got rid of it for a GeForce 256..bad choice..so im going to get one again. The framerates aren't "extremely fast" like my GTS, so it's not going to be my main card. I guess you could say im getting it because I am bored. Need a new case, new sound card...too..but instead im going to waste it on something I don't need, but thats irrelevant. G400 MAX or G450?

The G400 max is much faster in 3D than the G450.
But, if u give more importance to 2D office thingy.. and dualhead display is very important to u, then u might go G450.

I currently have a G400 MAX and I like it very much. Crisp 2D, and pretty good 3D in 800-32bit.

Alright, I will get the G400 for my test. I see you play CS. Do you get FPS? I'm not going to get this card if I can't upgrade one of my other computers. I have a TNT2 in my P3 667 rig, I could upgrade it. No wait..that comp has a Radeon 32MB DDR, ugh I can't remember. Heck, I'll find something to throw it into!

I'd say go with the MAX,
the only advantage the G450 has over the G400Max is a Higher RAMDAC for the 2nd Head...
Everything else is the same, except of course for it's Crippled Memory Bus which in
turn limits 3D acceleration greatly... But it's not meant for that either...

If you plan on using this card for Games, get the card that was Designed for them, G400Max
If you are more interested in DH, and MultiMonitor capabilities, then go for the G450...

The G400 MAX is undoubtedly the faster card, image quality is the same between the two cards.

The only advantage to the G450 is all the integrated elements that make it a great card for the DualHead/Multimedia fans.

Another thing to note is that the G450 is not compatible with Matrox's own capture card (the Rainbow series?)

yeah I play CS.
With my G400 max and drivers 6.23 WITH turbogl (turboGL is the key to all fast opengl games) I have very fast framerates. Between 40-85 all the time. Of course.. because they added more polygons to the models, FPS can go a bit down sometimes on very big maps at around 30. But normally its around 40-85 on an ATHLON 600.

G400 MAX

I've been using the newest drivers(w2k) and play a fair share of c-strike on it. But i have noticed that when the escape key is hit, you don't see the config screen just a black screen, DOesn't lock or anything, just learned to live with it..

I have no clue what my FrameRate is, don't know how to check, never really cared to much either..
