NDA will be lifted by Nov/16
My friend got gray varigated G80 board and he told me performance of G80 is above his expectation. ( 2 times 7950GX2 is plausible . )
Actually I'm bystander , a 3D Maniac and I oathed myself long time ago -" I cant get at 3D Field for my bread and butter ."

hmmm... yeah, sounds somewhat suspect... I don't frequent B3D, is this person reputable...?

I'm thinking it will be about 2x 7900GTX (not 7900GTX SLI, but actually twice the avg fps of a 7900GTX), which puts it a good notch above a GX2. Anything above that is gravy IMO. However, I think the real kickers will be:
-16xAA with a single card, which would be doable in a number of games with performance like that.
- HDR+AA ...all of a sudden games that didn't officially support it will through a patch (TWIMTBP at work)
- DX10 support, a checkbox feature at first, but an important checkbox and definitely a sales booster
- NV usually surprises us with a feature every gen as well. NV4x brought back SLI, G7x had transparent AA at launch, and later Quad-SLI, and no one suspected any of those prior...

Personally, I would hope this is true. Gotta justify the higher power demand IMO. Realistically though I prefer to see actual unbiased preofessional reviews first before believing something like that.

Think about it this way. G80 will have a successor - G85. nvidia likes to double performance between generations, which would mean g85 has to be faster than 4x 7950GX2. Question is can a die shrink and GDDR4 realise that sort of gain from G80?

I'd be impressed if it matches a 7900GTX SLI setup. I doubt it will match 2x7950GX2.

thats a different generation of cards. by your post it makes it sound like you're talking about a refresh within the same generation
7800GT to 7900GT did.

The 7900GT was faster than 7800GT (or was it 7800GTX?) SLi'd - thats part of why it was such a huge success with consumers.
But that's not what you originally said. You originally implied that G71--the refresh for G70--was twice as fast as the original G70 when you said:Originally posted by: Gstanfor

I said that the 7800GTX to 7900GTX didn't meet the "twice as fast" standard. You then said that the:...nvidia likes to double performance between generations, which would mean g85 has to be faster than 4x 7950GX2.
In fact, you said:7800GT to 7900GT did.
when in reality 2 7800GT's or GTX's in SLI will beat a single 7900GT anyday. The 7900GT was faster than 7800GT (or was it 7800GTX?) SLi'd - thats part of why it was such a huge success with consumers.

6800U to 7800 GT did, 7800GT to 7900GT did. I still think it's a large ask. The performance may be capable of getting up around 2x 7950GX2, but I doubt it will be able to consistently sustain it. I'd like to be proven wrong though.
