I'm hoping that this card makes these cool features we've been waiting for practical for high resolution gaming.

As long as Nvidia has an effcient architecture they have the memory bandwidth to back all of this up.

Yea, but what kind of 16xAA are we talking about? Similiar to 16xSLI AA? or 16xS?

Then theres the whole VCAA. Virtually Correct AA? Variously Combined AA?

I haven't drooled this much since the original Geforce 256!

2nd week of November means the 5th-to the 11th right? My step-up expires on the 13th! SCORE! SO happy... Plus, its going to be a hard launch with retail availablity, so EVGA probably won't keep the G80 out of its step-up plan! So happy!

YES, thanks for reminding me. I totally forgot about that. Maybe I can get a new card without spending too much money.

This is interesting PC graphics being extrodinarily more powerful than next gen consoles that aern't even out yet. It usually takes a month or two

Well, seeing as how I have a 1680x1050 screen and I'm looking to step up both my GTXes to 8800s my answer would be 'yes'. On actual release day you probably won't really need a G80 card, but once games like UT2007, Huxley (Unreal3 Engine), and Crysis hit the scene you will be thinking differently. Even today a 7900GTX really can't handle Oblivion totally smoothly at 1600x1200 with 4xAA/16xAF, neither can an X1900XTX with HDR+AA (it's playable, but not totally smooth). I also think that this coming year will finally mark the true arrival of HDR+AA as a standard feature in games. It sucks for ATI, but I think that game makers have been holding out on us. Don't be surprised if not too long after G80 drops, Bethesda releases a "patch" that adds HDR+AA to its natively supported features. Whatever the reason, you will probably really want HDR+AA and a card that can handle it going forward.

Interesting if true? How about amazing if true! C'mon Ackmed. Bite your lip and say something good about the idea of nvidia's forthcoming G80's. Your bias is growing on a daily basis, it would seem. You had to, or were just compulsed to throw in a dig.

I have to admit, he does seem very biased towards the green team. And, if the now small number of 64 shaders on the R600 turn out to be true, I wouldn't blame him.

Problem is - we dont know R600 specs yet, just as no one had any idea about G80 specs until now, and they turned out much better then expected, so the only thing to be excited about is that it is coming in a month from now

I'm just imagining the improvements this will make in performance. I hope Nvidia lets someone benchmark this thing soon.

Company of Heroes, possibly the most detailed RTS to date, has some extensive pixel shading on their models. Crysis also seems to be the benchmark for this card as its pixel shading is likely going to be the most intensive this year.

Heck, even Medieval 2 has pixel shading on all of its units. It's basically Rome Total war with pixel shading.

I believe you meant the red team...

I'm failing to see why people are so amazed by 128bit HDR & 16x AA. The first is just an upgrade of a feature - very typical nvidia behaviour. Bear in mind also that the ILM HDR format is primarily a storage format and developers are unlikely to use it verbatim in games for that reason (to much data that isn't useful for the frame you are redering).

The 16x AA is already available to anyone smart enough to seek it out, it will just be "standard" on g80. I'd caution against expecting to it to perform at 4xMSAA levels also, expect a performance cost roughly equivelant to what 8xS currently has.

Its interesting. It was more "amazing" the past few times rumored specs have been announced. Once things settle in a bit, they become less amazing. Its expected for ATi, and especially NV to "double up" or whatever you want to call it, with a new card, or especially a new generation of cards. Some of the new features are also old news.

Its hard for me to believe anything will be "amazing" until reviews come out. ATi and NV both have had flops, that were expected to be great cards. If you recall, before the 5800U came out, with its specs, it was heavily rumored to be a very, very, very fast card. As we all know, it didnt turn out that way. Thats why I like to wait till real reviews come out. Ive said the same thing about rumored ATi specs, so no its not bias.

i am also waiting to be "amazed"
:Q

i posted my 'amazement' at NV30's much hyped launch in another thread and got chastized for it [jokingly, i might add].
[DustBuster was supposed to be the first dx9 card - "the cinematic shading GPU" and was supposed to be "four times the performance of the GeForce4" (i am quoting pre-release nvidian HYPE) . . . but we know how that turned out]

i have been 'hyped' by both nvidia and ati in the past and have learned to wait for the real reviews . . . and the next driver revision after the first couple.

For the record, I do not think that this will be another 5800U debacle. Perhaps Im just used to newer cards doubling up on performance, and not as "amazed" as some people. It happens pretty often, especially with new generations. And as I said, there have been rumored specs for some time, so its not as "amazing" as it was when rumors/info first leaked.
