GA-7VRXP Rev 2.0...Video Instability

Whenever I've run video-intensive applications, my system will either lock, crash, or dump to the desktop. Here's my setup:

Gigabyte GA-7VRXP Rev 2.0 mobo
AMD AthlonXP 2200+
512MB PC2700 Corsair
27GB + 13.6GB Maxtor HDD
Hercules 3DProphet DDR
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Windows 2000 Professional

I've started with a fresh OS load so I know that old apps are not interfering. I did not load the 4 in 1 drivers, as my system locks every time I install the PCI Bus Master driver. Any thoughts or suggestions about how to tackle this one?

You really should be installing the latest Via 4-in-1's after a fresh install. It should be the first driver you load...before any video or sound drivers..

I've tried that already. Every time I've tried that, my system freezes within seconds of beginning a download. The only way that it doesn't lock is when I don't install the PBI Driver (first driver in the 4 in 1). That's why I'm so frustrated.

At this point, I don't think that an OS change is a good idea. Plus, it's a little pricier than I am willing to deal with.

Just read you didn't install the via drivers...
Did you install any other drivers?
This is not good, I'll be honest if it was me, I'd be formatting again.
Time to get a good imaging program too.


Looks like Insane already hit it on the nose, seriously, no via drivers after a format is asking for trouble.

The only driver that I didn't install was the PCI IDE Bus Driver. Every time I loaded that one, all my downloads would freeze after a couple seconds. Even now, I've tried a fresh OS reload, and loading the 4 in 1 with F11 BIOS causes strange behavior from my video...lots of artifacts and randomness. Extremely frustrated right now, as I can't even get my system half-way stable....

I have the same board and I'm having the same problem. I have found that there is a flaw in the agp port. When I went down to the local computer shop and told them about my problem they pointed at a machine and it also had the same board and was doing the same exact thing. I bought a new motherboard and now my system is running great. I trying my self to see if there update or anything that can be done to fix the board. Just thought I would let you know if you haven't already found out. If you find a fix, I would love to know what it is.

Thanks a bunch for the heads-up. Now that I know that it is yet ANOTHER issue with the board, I can focus my search. I'll repost if I find anything.
