GA-8IHXP problems?

Has anyone else out there experienced a problem with this motherboard? I built a machine recently for a friend using this board and it has been plagued with issues. GigaByte tech support is dismal as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm sticking with Asus boards in the future since I've never had a problem with one of them. Thanks.

What is your setup. i.e. type of ram, video card and othe hardware?

GA-8IHXP, Intel P4 2.26GHz w/ 533FSB, 512MB Kingston RDRAM, 80GB Maxtor ATA 133 hard drive, MSI GeForce 4 vid card w/ 64MB, TDK burner and Asus CD ROM in a 300W Inwin tower with Win XP Home. There is no good reason that this setup shouldn't fly, instead it crawls. I heard that GigaByte had problems with the Vcore voltage on some boards and even read where they forgot capacitors on some boards but this was never confirmed. Either way, customer support stinks as they just want to "repair" this piece of junk instead of cross shipping a new one.

What kind of a thread is this? What kind of input can we possibly provide? All I know is that all the reviews think it's the best i850 motherboard. You say you have problems, care to elaborate on that?

I'm pretty sick of regurgitating what ails this board and was just wondering if anyone else had problems with it as well. For those that are interested, here's the plea I sent to GigaByte:
"Machine runs like crap. Super slow performance, super slow load times and intermittent freezes coupled with inability to link onto the net through the onboard LAN port. Diagnostics originally indicated the math coprocessor was defective. The CPU was promptly replaced by the vendor.
The machine ran a little better but still pitiful. All settings have been checked and rechecked. BIOS upgraded. All latest drivers used. OS reloaded at least 5 times with fresh partitions and formats each time on a Maxtor ATA133 80GB. Video card is an MSI GeForce 4 w/64MB. This machine should fly, instead it crawls. At the very least the LAN is defective. This machine has been down for over two months while every possible avenue of correction was pursued. I have no choice at this point but to believe the motherboard is the culprit of the performance issues as well."
I built this thing for a friend and finally threw in the towel when he suggested giving it to a guy who knows alot more about computers than me. Guesss what? He says that the motherboard is crap as well. I got this board because of the feature set and good reviews but holy cow, the lame customer service from GigaByte just adds insult to injury. Maybe I'm just lucky and got a lemon. I've had good GigaByte boards in the past. This one is bad, real bad. Thats my 2 cents.

I have a similar setup. The first board I received was defective and newegg (good customer service) replaced this board for me. Everything seems to be working just fine for almost 3 weeks now. I can overclock the cpu to 145fsb, but have problems at 150.

Would it be possible to use a older video card for testing? Possible to test with a larger PS?

My system boots fast, runs applications fast, no problem with onboard LAN/Audio and got all the features I need.

Thanks fer that Sep. My board was defective as well. Vendor wouldn't take it back (over 30 days) so I'm dealing with Gigabyte and their lousy customer service. They're telling me that they are only obligated to repair the board. Screw that, I don't want that thing anymore, period! Owner of the box got an Asus board and now the machine cooks like it should!

I'm sorry to hear that. I have this board and it runs like a dream. 2.53@2.85, etc.

That's great to hear your friend is happy with his Asus (P4T533-C?), but unfortunately even Asus has had their problems at times (P4T533 anyone? :disgust: )
