GA-8IPE1000Pro trouble with onboard sound.

I just got one installed the codec for the onboard sound from the mobo CD but so far no sound. If I try to play anything basically no mixer is detected or selected and if i click on Sound Manager nothing happens.

Also checking sound manager directory it is empty.

OMG SO annoying!

any ideas, is this something extremely obvious that I just happen to be overlooking?

update it appears that if i uninstall the codec and then let XP pick it up automatically on reboot I can then play sound etc but I don't get the Realtek Sound Manager program installed so then if i go into the installation cd and select setup from within the audio/realtek directory it will appear to install the sound manager application although it doesn't actually install it and it screws up my sound so that no mixer is detected.

This is very retarded.
