Bios is corrupted i believe and I can't get it to post. Can I flash it from floppy and if so, how?

Here is what happened.....

I flashed the F8J and the flash completed. I rebooted and it was fine. I was at stock speeds by the way.

I shutdown and changed the FSB up to where i normally run it and it was fine.

I shutdown and changed the FSB to where it has the cold boot problem and it tried to boot and shutdown......then it turned back on and said it was searching for bios image on hard disk. Then it said it was recovering bios and then it turned off and then back on.

There has been nothing on the monitor since.

I tried clearing cmos removing the battery while i slept and nothing.

I made a floppy and put the F6 bios files on it and hooked up my floppy drive. I turned on the system and it does the same thing. It never lites up the floopy and there is no activity on it.

What is it that makes it go to the floppy for the bios???

Help!!

My DS3 wouldn't boot after having swapped out the stock Intel CPU cooler for one requiring a backplate.
So, went back to the stock Intel cooler, and the system works again.
Try that, or else:
call Gigabyte @626-854-9338 for a replacement bios chip.

I dont have a back plate. This isn't a cooler issue. Thanks anyway. Also, the bios chip on the DS3 is not removable. Unless you know something I dont know!

You're correct: no replaceable bios chip. Bummer!
There was supposed to be included an updated firmware for the JMicron controller.
Might try unplugging all optical and hard drives, and see if the board boots with only the floppy drive attached.

Tried that already....
I also changed the memory and cpu....nothing made a difference.

PSU gone bad maybe?? Loose ATX connector? Loose RAM? I hate to see your mobo being the guinea pig for the beta bios.

I tried everything on the planet and it is dead. I had to remove it and put in my backup board. I'm going to RMA it since I can limp along on my C19A-SLI until it comes back.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Be careful with F8J. I was going really slow, and doing the things I always do and it just went haywire. So much for all those features that the S series boards have for bios protection. Huh!!!

Try the following steps
1) Use only 1 single memory module..
2) Remove all power connectors from your PSUs, remove the CMOS battery and short circuit the battery connector plates with the battery for 5 sec..
3) Restart the system again..

If sucessful...
4) Enter the BIOS and press "F8" to enter the Q-Flash bios update.. You are able to flash the bios with floppy..

As for F8J bios.. It's a beta bios with certain new features.. not specfic for overclocking.. if you are hardcore for overclocking.. try F8i .. I guess u're able to find it on XS.. or some where here..

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday when building a new system. New DS3 with good PSU in a P180B case - no overclocking. I first ran memtest and it ran thru fine. Then during the Vista install I got a "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" BSOD. When I restarted the computer it said something about "recovering BIOS from hard disk", which wasn't a good idea because the disk wasn't even formatted at that point! It then rebooted and that was it... dead! Fans are on but nothing else. RMA. Not sure if I'm in the mood for another DS3.
