It turns out my front panel is plugged in with an AC'97 plug.

Does your case have the other plug? I see no reason why you should use such 'old' tech on the nice recent hardware you've got there.

As a test, I would be curious to see what would happen if you unplugged that from the board and started testing again using just the rear green plug.

Have you installed all the drivers from the Gigabyte website?

Have you checked Windows update for any additional driver updates?

Do you have access to the install CD that came with the board?

That could be your problem right there. A Modern mobo (B75 chipset) doesn't support AC'97. Look for an "HD Audio" or "Azalia" connector in your case wires. If your case is old, it may not have one, and you may have to get another case, or leave the front-panel audio cable unplugged.

You might want to try removing all the drivers you installed and letting the Gigabyte CD do it's thing instead. Or doing a fresh install.

Any efficient way to go about this, or just go through and delete them one by one?

Eh, depends what all you have on the computer at this point. But you would need to delete them one-by-one if you don't want to do a fresh install again.

I have the same problem with Realtek ALC1150 on my new MSI Z97M mobo. The audio worked fine for a week. Now there is static in the right channel whenever an app plays audio. Or for some apps like chrome, the static is persistent as long as the app is open. I can hear the audio that should be playing back extremely quietly compared to the static. Nothing changed that I'm aware of at the time. I rolled back to a restore point prior to the problem to no avail. My mobo has dedicated power mode that it can operate in after connecting a molex to a power header and that doesn't work either. I tried removing my front panel audio cable and just test on the motherboards back jack, same. In browsing for a solution, Realtek seems to have this problem since 2009.

Try this:
Open an Admin command prompt and enter these 2 lines:
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
Device Manager will open: click View/Show Hidden Devices
Then go through any audio related devices and check for any greyed out devices.
Right click/uninstall any that are found; reboot.
Also: follow VirtualLarry's advice, about disconnecting the front panel AC97 audio connectors.
Might be a good idea also to unplug the power cord and then hit the power button to discharge any remaining electrical charge that could have resulted from using the AC97 connector.
Use only the back panel audio ports, or else replace the computer case with something more updated.
