i have 2*512Mo OCZ PC 3700 Gold Edition rev2 and no problem ... But i needed to mod the mobo ( or i should have bought the OCZ DDR booster ) , because this ram need at least 3v to run correctly over 200 Mhz ...

After two weeks of waiting here is the replay I've got from GB's Technical support:

Dear Angel,

Thank you for supporting Gigabyte products and contacting GBT Tech Support.
At first, we are sorry for the late reply.
As to the problem you mentioned, in fact, according to AMD AP note BIOS should set to DDR333 with two dimm DDR400 or up, we still provide related option item if user try to change to DDR400. But, we will not guarantee the module/system will work properly. We are really sorry for the inconvenience and trouble you encounter because of the CPU limitation.

We have attached part of the AMD data sheet for your reference, please kindly refer to the file attached.

At last, we apology if our past service was not satisfactory. Due to the vast amounts of questions we receive daily, we understand the inconvenience of waiting for e-mail responses. If you still have any further question or suggestion about our product, please do not hesitate to contact with us. Thanks again for your understanding, and please receive our sincerely apology.

Question - 115095
From : Angel Angelov
Sent : 2004/10/2 01:23
Question : Hello

I bought a brand new MB and CPU two days ago. The GA-K8NSNXP-939 and an Athlon64 3500+ CPU! My system is having very serious problems with stability when in Dual Channel Mode!! Here is what I foind until now:

1. The Mobo will not run normaly in Dual Channel Mode with my A-Data VITESTA DDR500 Modulles even in DDR400 Standart speed with any voltage! The same goes with CANYON DDR400 Modules (with them even worse)

2. In single Channel mode the system runs perfectly well!!

3. The VITESTA DIMMs work perfectly with Soltek K8AN2E-GR and ASUS K8V-Deluxe s754 mobos plus GA-K7NNXP s462 mobo!!!

4. My ATI X800XT-PE VGA is working properly with all the mentioned mobos in t.3

5. The problems are: System restarts when reading some data from optical drives (but not every time); System returns to Desktop or restarts when Running 3D apps benchmarks or games; System gives errors in Prime95 tests; All this in Dual Channel Mode!

6. I have tried the "2T" setting in BIOS in all ot its tree states no diffrence in stability! All voltages that were availiable didn't help!

7. The PSU is Q-TEC 450W and is in perfect condition!

Please!! Can You HELP me? I gave nearly $250 for this mobo and another 450 for the CPU and now I have problems! I chose Gigabyte Mobo because of the High quality and features your products can offer!! Please don't tell me I made a Mistake!

Excuse me bad English

orionbg, the fact that you have system restarts when the optical drives are in use makes me wonder if your power supply is sufficient. 450W is a bit low compared to everyone else's setup with this mobo and your video card. If 450W is enough, I would say you are just barely cutting it. There's a meter called "Kill-a-Watt" or something... It will tell you exactly how much power your pc is consuming. It might be at your local electronics store, or you can get it online. Otherwise, you'll have to play around with a multimeter and do some math. Or you could just upgrade the power supply.

Oh, and isn't it hilarious how orionbg apologizes for his english, while the letter he got from GB tech support is barely legible? That just pisses me off, the fact that not only are they technically incompetent, but that their language skills are at a level of a 6 year old. Don't worry orionbg, your english is just fine.

yeah, it looking like one of the probs is the PSU....who are Q-Tec anyway???

are they a decent brand like Antec/Thermaltake....or are then a cheapo like L&C and MEC???

If its a cheapo PSU, then its almost certainly your PSU that is causing SOME of the problems...

Could someone explain orionbg's response from GB tech support? Are they saying that the mobo does not officially guarrantee dual channel DDR400?

whoa, whoa, whoa...:Q
Now look at orionbg's attachment. I am assuming the MEMCS is "memory channels", but what's the single rank, double rank thing mean? I'm at a loss...

I have the same problem with my ram ( OCZ PC 3700 that runs very well on the P4C800E Dlx i have ) and for the systeme shutdown when using an optical drive , but i achieve to have the score of 34 seconds at superpi in dual channel ...

Here is my config : A64 3500+ , gygabite S939 , 2*512 Mo DDR , Gef FX 5950 Ultra , 4 HD ... and 550w Antec True Control that has a volt-monitor ...

I have enough power for this system but still having problems ... and i didnt buy this mobo to use single channel mode, i bought s939 not 754 god dammit !!:Q

and for the 1T , 2T , system *seems* to be stable when using 1T , and absolutely NOT when using 2T

anyway , now i ve discovered A64 Tweaker ( http://www.dslreports.com/foru...ark,10712088~mode=flat ) , i think i ll be able to test every timings to see what can i do to fix that ( except selling that %$¨*;ù mobo )

My PSU is fine or it is with every other mobo I have put on it! The q-Tec web site is http://www.qtec.info/ They seem to produce high quality PSUs and some other equipment too! I have been terorrising my system with additional HDDs and more FANs but it never been making any problems! I've been OCing my old s754 Athlon64 3200+ and even then no problems with the PSU have been seen! I tried even useing two PSUs My primary + an old 250W AT PSU to power the RAID and the X800 but no change!! The problem is not PSU releated I think!

i can always hope

Well, GB tech support said there would be no revision, but what do they know:disgust:

before this i had an EPOX....and it died when i put a new stick of RAM in it.....apparently it was a common problem with my particular board!

my dad also had one, and when he flashed the BIOS it killed it (through no fault of his own), when he was researching what happened to his board, he found somewhere on their website, hidden away, the fact that you cant use that particular BIOS flash on the version of that board that had coaxual outputs...which my dad had..

did they put that in the readme file of the BIOS...NO, did they put that on the webpage for the BIOS/MB...NO

Guys would it be dangerous to bump my memory to 2.7V even though it's rated at 2.5? I've got it at 2.6, and have had less BSODs. I'm thinking adding a little more juice would make my system even more stable. Command rate of 2 definitely got rid of my BSODs completey but an alternative would be nice cause I lose about 1000MB/s of memory bandwith in the SiSandra benchmark.

i fixed my problems by clocking down the ram to 333 mhz. This is a rather large performance hit, though, so i'm thinking about getting some different ram that is more compatible.
