I checkked the bios and it says 4.3.47

I don't know what BIOS version "4.3.47" is, but the F4 BIOS versions fix temp readings. Btw, I'm currently using F6 and it doesn't seem to have improved the stability of my system when running dual channel DDR400. Temp readings are accurate.

Question for all you GA-K8NSNXP-939 owners...

I have a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card. I use this to game with in 7.1 surround sound.

I also want to get a microphone/earbud for voice communication, and use this as a separate sound and voice channel to communicate with.

Outside of some clunky USB offering, I wanted to ask...

IS it possible to enable the onboard audio, using that for the microphone headset, while still utilizing the SB audigy 2 for the 7.1 surround?

I.e., is it possible to have both sound processors running at the same time (onboard and PCI card)?

Basically, I just want to separate the channels out so I don't have my buddy screaming at the top of his lungs out of my 7.1 speakers -- I want to reserve that for enemy footsteps.

Anyone doing this on this board?

Thank you,

Well hello everyone. I'm going to start out by saying I have little or no knowledge about computers other then playing games but have been learning a lot since I purchased my first one. I have read most of the posts in this thread and might I say interesting. Currently I'm trying to make the new one that I had built work properly with all components. Here is what I have then I'll tell you the problem. This is kind of a long thread so please bare with me.

AMD 64 3500+
GA-K8NSNXP-939 with F3 bios
480w Antec Truepower
BFG Geforce 6800GT OC
Corsair XMS PC3200
SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS
ATA 7200RPM 80Gb Hard drive

I had a friend put everything together and we did a couple of things on it and it appeared to be fine. When I got it home and was playing some games on it, it would either reboot automatically, crash to desktop or just freeze up. And occasionally it will give me what appears to be a OS Serious Error on boot up.

Now let me just tell you all that I have ran Memtest on the first twin pack of ram (DDR500) and it came up with faulty ram errors 15% into test. So I returned them (Newegg) and while I was waiting for the replacement I put in my old ram from my old computer. The old ram is like PNY DDR233 or 333, not sure. The ram worked great, no errors, no crashes, nothing. After running Memtest for 2600% there were no errors. I even ran 3DMark05 with the old ram and got a score of little more then 4200.

Then I got the replacement ram, I was so excited. Then the same thing happened again. Memtest found faulty ram error after like 50% of test. After doing some research I found that the ram I was trying to use (Corsair XMS DDR500) was not compatible with the mobo. So I returned them and purchased Corsair XMS DDR400. Maybe I should have done a little more research and I would have found the compatibilty list. Wouldn't you know it, the same thing happened in Dual Channel. A friend of mine told me to put it in Single Channel so I tried it and I haven't had a problem since. Currently I have my Corsair XMS DDR400 Twin Pack in Single Channel mode (with no problems) and would like to optimize by utilizing the Dual Channel. That's what AMD64 is made for right?

So, here's the deal. I don't want to waste anymore money so if someone could possibly help me with finding the remedy I would really appreciate it. And let me tell you, after reading the previous posts I have already learned a lot but I'm still a noobcake.

Stumped,
Deedub

Deedub, I would first flash your BIOS to F6. Then, switch to dual channel and test your stability. You should use the prime95 torture test as well as memtest. If you fail these tests, try increasing the mem voltage by .1 or .2 volts. If that doesn't work, relax your timings. Enabling 2T timing seems to improve stability, but there's a significant performance hit. Try slots 3 and 4 for your RAM, for some odd reason people have better luck there.

Try disabling AGP Fast Write, I know that it doesn't play well with the 6800s (at least the eVGa ones). Once I did that, I had less BSODs.

I don't know why people insist on trying to use corsair memory with this board, after all that we've been through. Check the corsair memory forums, I'm pretty sure there's a few threads that would address your issue.

I Need Help

My GA-8KNSNXP-939 board will only run at 2000Mhz.

I have a AMD 3200+ fitted but the speed is only 2009.1 Mhz.

I have increased the multiplier in M.I.T. but it always reverts back to x10.

I have checked the details on CPU-Z and tried to change the multiplier using ClockGen but this also fails.

I am unable to get EastTune to work - although it did earlier today but not since I downloaded an upgrade

Any suggestions

@Brickster, ok, you can have both enabled at the same time (i have a USB Hi-Fi Amp, as well as my onboard sound enabled), but i don't think you can divide the channels up between them. You can select one as you default output (ie your audigy) and one for your Mic (ie the onboard) but all the sound will come out of the audigy....

as far as i know...

@glendower, i have a feeling thats correct...can you tell me how much cache you CPU has (either 512kb or 1024kb/1mb)?

if you are unfamiliar with AMD CPUs, they will not run at their stated speed...ie i have a Athlon 64 3800 BUT it only runs at 2.4Ghz...my old Athlon XP 3200 ran at 2.2Ghz...only 200Mhz speed difference, but a MAJOR performance increase....

It's a yes and no answer. Yes, it is possible. Where the "no" comes into play depends on the voice comm software you use. If you are using a program like TeamSpeak, then yes. It's possible. Set your Windows preferences so that the Audigy card is the default card (which I assume will only be playing through your speakers). Set TeamSpeak so that it plays back audio throug the intergrated audio controller (and it uses the intergrated audio's mic input to record). You'll probably want to use a mono headset w/mic on the intergrated controller (so you can still hear whats going on around you).

Make SURE you use Push-To-Talk (PTT) mode in TeamSpeak with this config though, or you'll severely piss off everybody else who's in the channel.

Thanks Pantner I realised that as soon as I had posted the question Duh!!

I was having so many problems with the installation that I lost my 'focus' an assumed that I had yet another problem with the board.

However I still have 3 unresolved problems.

1. How do I optimize the memory - during boot up it says to consult the manual but I cant find any reference to memory optimization. I have 2 * PC3200 512 M modules, NOT dual channel in slots 1 & 3.

2. If I install the nVDIA System Driver or the 8KS IDE driver from the gigabyte web site the boot up stop for 10mins after MUP.SYS is loaded.

3. I still cant get Easy Tune 4 to load - I have seen references to Easy Tune 5 but cant find it on the Gigabyte web site

Any and all help much appreciated

Thanks Ballistyx, I was hoping you would answer this one, knowing your rep on this thread. I use both Ventrilo and Teamspeak, and they both allow you to select non-default sound/mic options, which is good. So, glad to hear it is possible - that makes things a bit cheaper for me as I will re-enable the onboard audio.

Good call on the mono headset. I am looking for a good gaming headset that is tiny, with a boom mic, and fits one ear without covering it. Prefereably an earbud/mic combo that grips the ear. Let me know if you are aware of any such product.

Cheers,
Brickster

I had the F4k bios which was working just fine with no BSOD's and when i heard of the F6 i said wut the tell, I flashed my bios to f6 and everthing was working just fine then something screwed up my computer and i couldnt boot from my HD.
As i attempted to re-install windows i would get BSOD's... once everything had been re-installed it worked great for about a day and then the worste thing ever happened...while playing WWIIONLINE i got a windows crash...it had happened to my old rig a few times so i didnt think it would be a big deal...i rebooted the computer and nothing happened....the computer would turn on but nothing would load...no visuals on my monitor...although everything seems to b running..nothing is actually happening...it seems to lock up...i havent had much time to actually fool around with it yet ...but i plan on removing all the un-needed peripherals and start off with the vid card...the processor...and the ram....and ill go from there..ill check in later when i get through all that

if u have any suggestions please post them...ill try to check the forums as much as possible

Ok,

1) By optimise the memory, they just mean run it in dual-channel mode...ie slots 1&2 or slots 3&4...try 3&4 'apparently' they're better...if you want to mess around with RAM timings, then go into the BIOS and press "CTRL + F1" and it'll unlock a new menu item....if you didn't already know/read it...

2) I have never heard of this problem, and my computer runs fine with the NVidia System Driver loaded...so, sorry, i am unable to help you....when you got this motherboard did u re-install windows??? if not, that could be your problem...with WinXP its always best to re-install whenever you change motherboard...

3) Same again, easytune runs fine for me...although i haven't tried 5 yet (although i was able to download it...not 100% sure where it was, it was about a month ago, when it was first released...)

Did you readjust all your setting in the BIOS back to original settings after flashing?

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I didn't realize I was held in such high regard.

Unfortunately, you can't readily use an X-Box Live headset. Unless you can find a breakout cable that separates the audio and the mic lines, you won't be able to just plug it into your sound card. The size of the connectors is a little different too (it's 2.5mm (3/32"), the same used on cell phones). Radio Shack sells the adapters, but not a breakout connector. I don't know of any that do sell those either.

If you don't mind the headband, you can use something like this:
http://www.plantronics.com/nor.../cat1430032/prod440012

If you're good with a soldering iron, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify a 2.5mm extension cable (http://www.radioshack.com/prod...roduct%5Fid=43%2D2003) so that it has separate audio and mic leads (and add 3.5mm leads to the computer end). You could then use any X-Box Live headset.

Good News Everyone (whoa, futurama flashback!) yesterday i recieved my motherboard in the mail....I HAVE A WORKING COMPUTER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

still Rev1.0, oh well....its good enough for now...

when i build the comp, i put the RAM in 3&4, cause everyone said that they work better...my computer blue screened on boot up....put them in 1&2 (what i had before) and worked fine (well, as fine as before)...

then on bootup it would hang for about 20sec, i updated the BIOS (to F4, didn't have the F6 at the time) and now it goes through fine....hehehe, the funny thing in, with my RAID-0 array, the slowest part of bootup is the motherboard posting !

If anyone is interested, here is a stock run of Aquamark3...

Big problem with my pc:
got the same mb with F3 bios with an Amd Athlon 64 3500 an 2x512 ddr 400Mhz Ram and a Geforce 6800GT all powered by a Atx 350W.

The problem is simple:my pc is not performanta at all, it seems to run more like one of my friend's pc which should be much less performing.
What shall I check?
Which bench can I post u in order to evaluate the situation?

I'll give u some CPU-Z datas:Core speed 2210.8 multiplier x11,HTT 201.0
Memory ddr-sdram 1024,dual,freq 201.0

Edit:
I'm downloading aquamark:what sort of "numbers" should I expect?

Edit 2:Aquamark results

Minor update on my rig. For a while now, Norton System Protection was crashing on system startup, and I couldn't figure out why. I also couldn't run 3dMark2001 anymore.

Well, I think I figured out why. Apparently one of my Raptor's has a bad block on it. I'm in the process of reformatting the drive to see if it takes care of the problem.

B - Yeah dude, you have helped out this forum tremendously! Others as well, Pantner, flawlssdistortn, Hornswaggler, savoybc, BigKilla and a few others worthy of mention. Good to have a little mobo community going, for sure!

I actually ended up buying this:
http://www.sennheisercommunications.com/pr-pc120.html

$30.06 to my door.

This little guy actually is a 2.5mm connector that comes with a 2.5mm to dual 3.5mm's adapter with a volume control and mute button on the adapter. The dual 3.5" split the mic and voice out. YAY!

I presume that I could use this very adapter with any 2.5mm headset solution, including that one for XBox.

Of course, I tried the Mic-In with the onboard audio chip, and was unable to get that to work. I got the voice (ear bud) to produce sound, but the mic, I could not get to work...even when I made it the system default for my entire machine and rebooted.

My solution...plugged the mic line into the Mic-In on my SB Audigy 2 card. Works great. Kinda ugly setup, but hey, it works. Yay! Now I just have to get used to hearing voice through one ear on a mono signal.

Microphone works great in gaming action, but I am Not sure why I can't get the mic-in to work on the onboard audio, though.

Can someone try a test with this, too? Perhaps I am missing something.

Thanks,

@Ballistyx, Lol, you can if you want

@Andreas7577, that looks like the AQ3 score is about right....the GFX Score is a little low, but i've found this board is a little slow for gaming...the best drivers for AQ3 are the 61.34...that link that i posted above is my stock score, while i do have a better CPU then you, it shouldn't make THAT much of a difference....

however, i have also run 3DMark 2005, and i got around 4400-4500, so it looks like there may be something holding you back a little...

i am yet to run PCMark2004...

Do you have Service Pack 2 or DirectX 9.0C installed????

Thanks,

NICE FIND!!!! Hummm... now I know what I want for x-mas. heheheh.

Open the control panel and select Sounds and Audio Devices, and under the VOLUME tab, click the ADVANCED... button (or just double-click on the speaker icon in the systray ).

In the speaker window that opens, click the options pull down menu and select properties (while you're there, make sure "Advanced Controls" is checkmarked too). For the mixer device, select NVIDIA nForce Audio, then click the "Recording" radio button. Make sure that the Microphone entry below the button has a checkmark in it. Click OK.

Make sure that the Select box has a checkmark under the "microphone" slider. Now click the Advanced button below the slider.

Put a checkmark under "Alternate Microphone", and try it again. If it's weak, put a checkmark in the "Microphone Boost".

Something else that may be causing your trouble. I remember that my old Audigy card would switch the mic line back to the "MIC" input, even when I plugged it in through the LiveDrive (which would be "MIC2"). It annoyed the hell out of me too. It'd do this whenever I'd restart/boot the computer.

That's about the only thing I can think of why your mic won't work when plugged into the motherboard's microphone jack. I've got a GN Netcom 8-mic microphone array (http://www.headsetdepot.com/item518.htm.... and no, I didn't pay THAT much for it. ) hooked up to the intergrated audio jack, and I've got a Plantronics DSP-500 headset too.

Hmmm, the only thing i can think of (it doens't seem like you are having any sort of hardware problems) is to make sure all your drivers are installed correctly...

When you installed your Motherboard drivers did you run it off the CD, or did you install everything manually??

and when you got the motherboard, did you do a clean install of Windows???
