The stock HS&F should be able to get the job done until you find something better. Atleast this could take the urgency out of your shopping.

I believe I tried fitting this cooler on the GA-K8NSNXP-939 and the DPS power supply cover was in the way. I'm sure if you took the DPS fan off it could work, but not sure if that would be smart. I am just assuming they put the DPS fan on there for a reason.

Robor, better count your pins!

Motherboards can be 754, 939, or 940 pins. The gigabyte board in question is 939 pins. The A64 3200+ in 939 pin package is VERY NEW... I assume you just bought it?
Yes, I just purchased it. It's the .90 939pin version of the 3200+. Actually I traded a fellow AT'er named Atif my 6800GT for cash and this motherboard. I purchased the CPU to fit in there.

The trouble is I got an OEM CPU so no HS/F with it. I need to make a decision on which cooler and I want to get something good for overclocking but not too loud. I currently have a Zalman on my P4 rig and it's been great.

Oh, is it for sure that the Thermalright XP-120 and/or Zalman is a no-go on this board? Hornswoggler said he tried and it wouldn't work but I don't know which one he was talking about.

whoa, cool, .90nm!!!!

didn't know they had been released!!!!

I think i heard something about being able to fit a Thermalright XP-120 onto this board, but you have to "edit" the DPS HSF.....

I got a Gigabyte 3D Cooler Ultra GT, which i've found to be very good....

Hi i am Pete

i also bought this mb with a 3800+.This is my first system i build ,so it is more of a hobby to me .I am not in games and all that.I have pretty much all the same problems with this board then everybody else ,in all the forums i rote about it in the last two weeks, besides with the cpu temp. that seems to be fine on my board.I really dont know anythink about all these test you all write about, like prime 95.I just found this one website where they sell this board with the memory pre installed with a 3 year waranty and hey say they tested it all too.
here is the link

http://www.jncs.com/php/bundle...p?mb=mb-gb-k8nsnxp-939

I seem like they used kingston mermory.

Like i said this is my first time i build a system. My question is if they offer a three year warranty, wouldnt they make sure that the board they sell with the memory they installed would work perfectly?

I went probably to 3 to 4 diffrent forums and every body seems to prefer Corsair mermoy.I ve never read any body using kinston.

Please let me know what you think .

sorry for my english ,this is not my native language

Not everyone prefers corsair memory, it's just that anyone who bought it has had problems. Kingston memory should work just fine, it's on the compatibility list. I've never heard of anyone having issues with this brand.

Note: The Thermalright XP-90 does not fit this board by default. Well, it does fit but it will not work "out of the box". The XP-90 doesn't fit on the default bracket so you have to remove it and in doing so you remove the default backplate. Thermalright provides you with a backplate and screws but the screws don't tap into the backplate and there are no nuts to secure the screws. Luckily I had a metal (cardboard backed) backplate left over from my Zalman installed in a P4 system and the Thermalright screws fit it perfectly so I was able to use that.

I've got the HS/F mounted on the board but I'm still dumping data from my main rig before doing the install and reload. If I have time I'll start on the install tonight. Will post my results.

From reports I have heard, the less aggressive Corsair memory should be fine.

Also, I don't think it is the manufacturer fault so much in this case, but ANY Samsung-based 2-2-2-5 DDR memory. The Micron 2-2-2-5 stuff seems to work fine. Crucial uses the Micron RAM. Corsair uses Samsung RAM. There are other memory modules that use the same chips and probably suffer similar problems.

This is Bs.

I thougt this board supports up to 4 GB of memory.I just saw at kingston homepage that it only supports 2 GB if you use DDR 4OO.

Comments
MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode. Kingston offers "K2" kit part numbers for Dual Channel mode.

If three modules are installed, the system will not boot.

This system only supports 4 banks of memory. If two double-sided DIMMs are used, the 3rd and 4th sockets are disabled.

So only if you use DDR 333 you can fill all four banks.

Whats up with that?

2x1Gb at DDR400....

i don't think that ANY application will use the extra 2gb of RAM if you put 4gb in...so its not worth it!

This is the deal with any socket 939 board. You can only use the maximum amount of ram if you drop down to DDR333. Likewise with a socket 754 or socket A board, you can get the maximum 3GB only if you run at 333 as well (it'll be 2GB if using DDR400).

Not true for me regarding Corsair.

I have the 3200XL Pro, and they are working beautifully.

The only issue I had was that the voltage came stock on the mobo at 2.5V. Once I kicked it up to 2.7V on the VDIMM, I run like buttah.

Recommended voltage for this model at advertised timings of 2-2-2-5 is 2.75V. Since 2.7V is max on the mobo, I just relaxed the timings to 2-3-2-11.

Everything is working really nice, and no BSOD's. I have yet to try all 4 DIMM sockets, though.

Thanks,

Roger that - As Anantech repeated for every mobo in their Socket 939 Roundup...

"The [insert your 939 mobo here] was able to run with all 4 DIMM slots at the same aggressive 2-2-2-10 settings used for 2 DIMMs. However, as we have seen on the other 939 boards running all 4 DIMMs, Command Rate must be reduced to 2T when filling both Dual Channels."

Savoybc, a member of this thread, has confirmed the same in his testing.

This appears to be a manufacturer independent issue.

Some info I found:

Whether or not it is possible to run the Command Rate at 1T depends on a variety of factors, though.

  • - Memory bus frequency
    - Number of chips on the DIMM (the more chips, the longer it will take the controller to sort out which specific chip is the one that needs to be selected)
    - Quality of the DIMMs used
    - Number of DIMMs running in the board (if there are more DIMMs, the total umber of chips will naturally increase)
    - Position of any given DIMM (move the DIMM to the farthest DIMM slot and it will fail)

Just installed my GA-K8NSNXP-939 and it's 100% dead. Now I remember why I usually stick to Asus & Abit.

Hi

First of all i thank you all for the input and documentaion of this motherboard .Like i mentioned this is my first system i build. You all really helped me to understand a lot more about computer hardware and software. For the last few weeks i was like glued to my monitor reading what you all here and in other forums had to say.You all talked a lot of tests you ran on your systems, wich helped you to to tune them to their hightest performens, well i would really apriciated if you could post more about these tests, like they work.where you can get the software , how you use them.If this is not the aprobiate forum please post a link that would expalain my questions. Also since my english is not the best i could use any website suggestion that explains thinks computer relaited in an easy english.

Thank you all again its been fun

I've had good success with the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.

Then again, my Corsair 3200XL didn't work with that board either.

Hmm... you could just wait a few weeks for a PCI express motherboard?
