On stock settings In 3DMark05 I got 3584.

Specs:
2x512 (1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS Dual Channel Mode (PC3200, CL 2)
AMD 64 3500+
ATI X800 Pro
Antec P190W
Antec TrueBlue 480w
Seagate 160GB SATA HD with NCQ
Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939

As I said earlier, if gigabyte bring out another BIOS update to fix my rebooting HTT problem then this is an awesome motherboard.

Otherwise, it should be able to run all memory at dual channel DDR333. It was also said that the motherboard manufacturer still has an influence on the stability of the system, although not as much cause the memory controller is now on the CPU.

Now you see why I was getting aggravated? It's like NONE of the companies has any idea what's going on. Call them one time, they'll give you on answer. Call them again, and you'll get a completely different answer. Write to the mobo maker, and they'll do the same thing, including telling you it's AMD's problem. :|

If you read back in this thread, you'll find an older post of mine where something similar happened to me too. It was all related to my drivers.

I remember reading your earlier entry about this, and have gone through many un- and re-installs. I have tried using the board drivers off of the disc, and also the straight unified nVidia drivers from the website. With EACH of those, I've tried installing the nVidia 61.77 driver and also the Omega driver. I've done this all one at a time(I'm not stupid) and I still can't seem to break 10k on 3Dmark03! That was why I originally wanted to stick my VGA card in my friends machine to begin with. At this point, I just don't know.

My friend seemed to think that it was being capped(3Dmark results) by a hardware combatibility issue(as in memory/CPU/mobo). I can't deny this but I also can't confirm it. BTW my cap in 3Dmark05 was about 2400. This seems recockulous for my system as it is built. It has to be either the memory or motherboard, OR BOTH!

Oh yeah. One other thing. When you installed the chipset driver, did you extract it to a folder, and then delete the GFX driver that comes bundled with it? I'm not 100% sure if nvidia is still including it with the nforce driver, but I remember it giving me some trouble when I used to have a 5900Ultra in my system (got a 9800Pro now). I had to extract and delete the driver or else it'd replace my existing driver.

I installed the F6 BIOS, and I did a quick test, but it didn't work. It might be something I did though. In all honesty, I haven't had much time for computer work these days (new woman in my life , back in school after taking 10 years off, and work's been a little rough as of late too). When I get more time I'll fiddle around with it to see what I can get it to do.

well, stickly speaking, you shoudl "Restore Factory Defaults" Everytime you update the BIOS...

You you should go through and check all your settings...

and you can try putting the RAM Timings in manually, it may work, it may not...Motherboards can sometimes have trouble detecting to true speed of RAM (ie Cas and the other 3 things...) so, even if the board didn't get the correct settings at auto, you can still get the correct speed out of them...

My RAM detects at 2.5-5-5-8, but it runs fine at 2.5-3-3-10! (no voltage increase)

and sometimes with certain RAM you have to increase the voltage to get it to ran at its proper speeds..!

Dear All,

With the latest Bios update solving all the problems of this board, is it worth going for this over MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum? I'm in Korea and Neo2 is still not available here for sale!

Well... I just got back from having breakfast with my woman, but that's another story for another time.

Here's the deal. I tried setting my machine for a 250Mhz FSB, but it won't boot at that speed (even when lowering the HT multiplier to 4x). I'm pretty sure it's my RAM holding me back though.

The highest I can set the FSB speed is 218Mhz before it won't boot. I'm pretty sure that if I set my RAM to 166Mhz, it'll probably work at a 250Mhz FSB. No biggie though. I've got it set to 210Mhz, 12x multi, RAM timings set to 11/4/4/3. The CPU is running at 2520Mhz, and the HT bus is at 1050Mhz. Not a HUGE O/C, but it's not bad either.

I've gotta laugh at the temps the new BIOS is reporting though. It's reporting my case temps at being 53c (124F), and my CPU at being 56c (full load). I know it's total bull though. Using the old finger test, I can tell you that my waterblock is barely warm to the touch. Now, with my old AthlonXP.... THAT processor used to scorch! There's no way the internal case temp can be that high either. It's barely 65F in the room! Sticking my hand inside the case, I can tell you that it's about the same temp as the room itself. I'm not terribly surprised that the temps are so far off with the new BIOS. I think Gigabyte doesn't know how to read the temp diode on a CPU to save it's life. My 7NNXP reported temps as far off as this board does too, so I can't say that I'm terribly surprised.

Oh well.. so far I like the new BIOS. It's running stable, and it seems to have resolved the issues that I didn't like in the F4 BIOS. Now there's only ONE nagging problem that I wish they'd resolve. The stupid problem of the keyboard not working after a warm reboot that all nForce boards suffer from. :|

Just to be clear guys, when you say your system is now "stable", this should mean passing prime95 and/or memtest86 for I'd say at least 6 hours. Just cause you were able to boot or POST with no problem, or even play games with no BSODs doesn't mean it's stable.

For those of you who are new to the thread, welcome. I think we'd be all interested in your exact setup and what kind of problems you are or are not experiencing, so please post your specs. As you can see, we've been struggling to work through the problems related to this board/chipset/processor since August and have made slow (but steady i think) progress. After being harassed by almost all of us, Gigabyte has put out several BIOS updates to try and fix the problems.

Since the latest is F6, a result of about 10 beta versions, I think we should take a step back and review the inital bugs and what has or has not been addressed.

1) dual channel memory issue - I'd say this is the most aggravating problem. It turns out that many memory modules do not run very well in dual channel unless they happen to be on the "recommended" list. There is one put out by AMD, which I would say is accurate, but it is a very small list. The one we have by Gigabyte is unofficial, and it was sent to someone via tech support email. Based on the experiences of the people in this thread, I believe we can say that Crucial Ballistix runs well. Since most review sites (including anandtech) used OCZ modules during their test of this board, I think we can give the thumbs up to this brand also. Corsair memory seems to cause the most problems, but I have heard of users having some degree of success. For some reason using DIMM slots 3 and 4 seem to be more stable than 1 and 2. And it's been established that if you want to fill all 4 slots, a command rate of 2 should be enabled. We're not really sure where the problem lies here, if the instabilities are caused by the integrated memory controller, or the nforce3 chipset, or the BIOS. I was tempted to believe AMD's explanation that only high end memory should be used for dual channel DDR400 (cheap stuff should run DDR333 just fine). But then why (I'm not exactly sure about this) are there so many complaints about instabilities with THIS board and not the ASUS A8V? That would lead one to believe the motherboard manufacturer is at fault. AMD tech support was not able to tell me for sure if this was an issue that could be improved through the BIOS.

2) incorrect temp readings - This was finally solved through the F4 BIOS versions. It took a damn long time to fix and now according to Ballistyx the problem has resurfaced in the F6 version. I'm not a BIOS programmer, but I really don't get how outputting the data from the temp sensor diode on the processor is that hard. I have called Gigabyte tech support to ask for some sort of documentation on the various BIOS revisions, and so far the BIOS dept has not provided any. I know it's not common for most companies to do this, but I dont think it is that unreasonable for me to ask. There have been MANY beta BIOS versions that tech support has asked me to try, and I would be more comfortable doing this if I had some idea as to what has been modified. For all we know, they could have just hard-coded in the temp readings instead of fixing the actual problem.

3) BIOS not accepting raises in the FSB - I'm not sure as to if this problem has been fixed in F6. According to one person in the house of help forums, the F4K version accepted raises and the F4 did not. He speculates that this is because some aspect of the dual power system was changed in order to provide more stability. I don't know if this is true or not, but I will say that the DPS is definitely a suspect for causing instability issues. Many people think their instabilities are memory related (and probably most are), but I think that some are because they have a less than perfect power supply. I get the feeling you need to have a good quality PSU for this board. Also, Gigabyte released an identical motherboard (K8NS Ultra-939) without the DPS. That action would lead me to believe that either something is wrong with the DPS or that the company is just leaving it out so they don't have to charge $220 for the board. Or that there is more wrong with the K8NSNXP-939 and that it's actually a revision and we are guinea pigs. I called Gigabyte sales dept about this and the guy (who didnt really seem to know dick) told me that the K8NS Ultra-939 was discontinued. So who knows.

4) hard drive LED not responding - I believe this was fixed in the F4 versions.

5) bad firewire performance - don't know, I don't use firewire. I'm just repeating what I've heard on other forums.

6) "keyboard not working after a warm reboot that all nForce boards suffer from" - Ballistyx can tell you more

7) slight overclock of AGP, Hypertransport bus, memory bus - on stock settings, HT bus is at 1005Mhz, mem is at 402, and AGP is at 67Mhz. Don't know if many others are having this problem, (and it hasn't seemed to cause instabilities for me), but I always set it back after booting. Im not sure if this is just an acceptable deviation that's within the "tolerance", or if it's just cheating to get better benchmarks. I don't think it will really cause any problems, but it's annoying.

If you guys know of any other issues, let us hear about it, and also let us know if you are experiencing any of the problems stated above.

Now thats something that i can understand

BTW, your GFX card is holding you back....i got a Albatron 6800GT 3 days ago (my motherboard still isn't here....i THINK i'll have it on thur or fri!) and its SWEEEEET!!!!, its running on a AXP 2600 oced to 3200 speeds, w/ 512mb RAM....and it is SERIOUSLY bottlenecking the GFX Card!!!!! and even then, my stock score beats that!

My AQ3 score

With the F4 BIOS, if I tried to run all four of my DIMMs (two Corsair and two GEiL), it'd fail over to the second BIOS which was still flashed with the F3 BIOS. It wouldn't give you any idea that it was the RAM that was causing the issue, and would appear as if you had a bad BIOS flash. Removing either the GEiL or the Corsair resolves the issue. I was also getting random BSOD's for no reason when I had the F4 BIOS.

With the F6 BIOS, it WILL post with all four DIMMs installed. What it does now is that it will (for lack of a better term) bypass the memory in the first two DIMM slots. While I wish it'd work with all four of my DIMMs (like the F3 BIOS does), I'm happier with the way the F6 BIOS handles this issue than how the F4 BIOS did it. Also, so far I haven't had a single BSOD since flashing with the F6 BIOS either.

Now... I wish nVidia would get off of their ass and fix this stupid keyboard bug! To experience it first hand, set up your machine so that it needs a BIOS password to load the OS (put a password in under "User Password" in the BIOS, and set the security option from "Setup" to "System".). Cold boot your PC. Just as it is asking you for the password, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL (or press the reset button on your case). For me, resetting once is the kiss of death. I won't be able to enter in the password. I'll then have to power off the system and remove power from the PSU for at least 10 seconds to let the capacitors drain (clearing the system in the process). It doesn't matter if the keyboard is on the PS/2 or USB port either. You may have to reset the system one or two times to get it to do it. For me, it only takes one shot. .... and before somebody asks, yes I tried different keyboards.

Pantner. Yeah, I know my vid card is "holding me back", but in all honesty, it does what I need it to do. I play video games so infrequenly now that it's just a waste of money buying a faster card. When I do play a game (PlanetSide), it plays it pretty fast though, so I can't complain. I really needed the faster processor and larger amount of RAM for what I do with my system. That's why I upgraded to this in the first place. You should see how much faster this system is over my system at work (HP/Compaq d530 Convertible Mini-Tower w/a 2.4Ghz P4 w/no hyperthreading & 1GB of RAM). Occasionally I'll take some pictures for my company (I'm in I.T., but photography's one of my many hobbies), and converting pictures from .CRW (Canon RAW) format to TIFF takes AGES on the P4. My Athlon64 can do it in almost half the time. It's insane how much faster Paintshop Pro 9 runs on this system Vs. my work system. The Digital Camera Noise Removal tool takes about 15 seconds on a 7MB file on my A64. The same picture takes (no word of a lie either) at least twice that long to run on my P4 at work. I've been tempted to bring my home system into work and let my friend in Finance run some of his spreadsheets on it. He always complains that his system takes forever to calculate his spreadsheets (some of his spreadsheets take one and a half hours to calculate on a P4 @ 2.4Ghz w/1GB of RAM). He'd probably stain his shorts over how fast my machine would calculate it.

Sorry if my post is going to be a bit silly but I'm a noob.
I have a GA-K8NSNXP-939 but I really don't know how to checkthe temperatures.
I tried to use easy tune both 4 and 5 but I cannot access the pc health option.
So I downloaded MBM but it seems that my board is not in the list!!!

Could u help me?
Is there a Mb on the MBM list that I can use as a reference?

Thanks

PS how can i check my bios version?

Your BIOS version is stated when you first boot up. You can check your temps using the Nvidia System Utility, which comes with the nforce3 drivers.
