I actually ended up buying this:
http://www.sennheisercommunications.com/pr-pc120.html
$30.06 to my door.
This little guy actually is a 2.5mm connector that comes with a 2.5mm to dual 3.5mm's adapter with a volume control and mute button on the adapter. The dual 3.5" split the mic and voice out. YAY!
I presume that I could use this very adapter with any 2.5mm headset solution, including that one for XBox.
Of course, I tried the Mic-In with the
onboard audio chip, and was unable to get that to work. I got the voice (ear bud) to produce sound, but the mic, I could not get to work...even when I made it the system default for my entire machine and rebooted.
My solution...plugged the mic line into the Mic-In on my SB Audigy 2 card. Works great. Kinda ugly setup, but hey, it works. Yay! Now I just have to get used to hearing voice through one ear on a mono signal.
Microphone works great in gaming action, but I am Not sure why I can't get the mic-in to work on the onboard audio, though.
Can someone try a test with this, too? Perhaps I am missing something.
Thanks,
