Been trying to hunt down a nightmare. Random BSOD's, lock ups, slow performance.
System was running fin and then little glitches started, went to run defrag and the system would lock up took forever to get task man open and it would show defrag running 3 times. then other times it would just crash. BSOD. Also having cd burning or should say bad burn issues. A few reboots later and everything would work fine again. Maby a week or so would go by and bam it started in again. SO did round one, pull the case open and do a good dust blow out. ran good for about 3 days and fatal error and crash. Since the system has been running almost 8 month and alot of junk and stuff figured id just do a full format and fresh install of xp. Updated drivers and all. well problem got worse now it went to happening quite often. lock ups, bsod's etc. Checked the drive and found a few bad sectors so picked up another drive and started over. Still no change, ran mem test for 4 hrs no errors before reinstalling xp just to be safe cause i red a few posts about mem issues and this board. Put xp on the new drive, fresh install again. updated drivers and bam same problems. Formatted teh drive and did one last xp install with the origional drivers off the Gigabyte cd . lasted about 2 hrs then bsod.
In thinking the pwr supply was approx 2 years old picked up a new 650 watt for cheap insurance, still problems persist. then said wait missed the simple part maby a bad cable so replaced the sata and ide cables and latest bios, no avail.
Ok totally frustrated robbed the vid card and memory out oof another system my last attempt still no change. System might run for an hr no problems might bsod on web surfing.
Im thinking the MB has issues, anyone else agree? If so any affordable MB suggestions. raid option would be nice but not needed, (heard there has been issues with the raid on both the nvidia and intel chips) Single vid card , sound, basic OC options.

Current config is
XP svrc pk 3
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (2.0)
Q6600 (not OC)
2 gig ocz ddr2 1066
wd 640 hdd
650 watt pwr supply
8800GT
2 dvd burners

I am also having some issues with this board. It would lock up randomly, like when browsing or stuff. I open task manager and both cpu and ram are not being touched. Also whenever I change my voltage from auto to anything in the bios, the overclock fails. I have to overclock with voltage set to auto. Its not bad as yours but I still have a few BSODs, with netio.sys, tcpip.sys and others as the offending module.

Sorry you folks are having problems with the DS3L board.
I have 2 of these (rev2.0); 1 with Q6600 in Antec Sonata 380w and other with Q9550 in Antec Sonata3 500w.
$35 after market coolers.
Good components, but not real expensive stuff.
Both systems run great.
However, the Q9950 system is on the 3rd EVGA 8800GT.
You may have read Nvidia has bad silicone out there, but that does not sound like your problem.
Ram voltage - Mine is rated 2.1v (standard ram is 1.8v) so have to set @ +.3v

CrazyCuda: I have read that "you will run into issues with RAM higher than DDR2 800".

If you need any other bios settings, let me know.
However, I am not an extreme overclocker.

I've also had trouble with a DS3L, I built my son's gaming rig using one I picked up from Fry's about 18mos ago and it ran great for a while but has exhibited the symptoms that you describe plus USB problems with mice and keyboards on a couple of occasions once requiring me to completely format and reload, and change mice and keyboards.

Anything else happens and I won't even troubleshoot I'll pull the mobo, I swear I think half of everything I've ever gotten from Frys crapped out on me. It's quick and convient to get computer stuff from a B&M and I've gotten some good price deals there, but evidently you get what you pay for

Memory went bad maybe? I have this board and I haven't had any major problems with it.

Thank you for that post. I have a DS3L and I absolutely cannot crack 400+MHZ. @400, right now, it is rock solid and it has been that way for months. However, even 403Mhz fails to boot into Windows. I'd hate to have to spend money on another motherboard to get an extra 500mhz out of my CPU, but I feel like my PC8500 RAM is going to waste
