Been trying to hunt down a nightmare. Random BSOD's, lock ups, slow performance.
System was running fin and then little glitches started, went to run defrag and the system would lock up took forever to get task man open and it would show defrag running 3 times. then other times it would just crash. BSOD. Also having cd burning or should say bad burn issues. A few reboots later and everything would work fine again. Maby a week or so would go by and bam it started in again. SO did round one, pull the case open and do a good dust blow out. ran good for about 3 days and fatal error and crash. Since the system has been running almost 8 month and alot of junk and stuff figured id just do a full format and fresh install of xp. Updated drivers and all. well problem got worse now it went to happening quite often. lock ups, bsod's etc. Checked the drive and found a few bad sectors so picked up another drive and started over. Still no change, ran mem test for 4 hrs no errors before reinstalling xp just to be safe cause i red a few posts about mem issues and this board. Put xp on the new drive, fresh install again. updated drivers and bam same problems. Formatted teh drive and did one last xp install with the origional drivers off the Gigabyte cd . lasted about 2 hrs then bsod.
In thinking the pwr supply was approx 2 years old picked up a new 650 watt for cheap insurance, still problems persist. then said wait missed the simple part maby a bad cable so replaced the sata and ide cables and latest bios, no avail.
Ok totally frustrated robbed the vid card and memory out oof another system my last attempt still no change. System might run for an hr no problems might bsod on web surfing.
Im thinking the MB has issues, anyone else agree? If so any affordable MB suggestions. raid option would be nice but not needed, (heard there has been issues with the raid on both the nvidia and intel chips) Single vid card , sound, basic OC options.
Current config is
XP svrc pk 3

Q6600 (not OC)
2 gig ocz ddr2 1066
wd 640 hdd
650 watt pwr supply
