I just completed a new build with the P35-DS4 and am having serious issues. The first issues began when I was installing Vista X64 after a very long setup there was a BSOD. I assumed it was my ram and after running memtest for a few hours found a faulty stick.
When I was trying to use my memtest boot cd I received a few disk boot errors and was unable to boot from the cd. After a few shutdowns the cd would finally boot. I replaced the sata cables for the HD and DVD drive and the errors stopped.
Now 1 RMA into the build and running on only 2GB of (RAM OCZ Reaper HPC Edition) I got vista x64 installed and everything was going well. Then the diskboot error returned. I tried different sata ports and the computer would boot. Then randomly it would stop booting untill a few hard restarts. They have since stopped but I dont know for how long. I installed the chipset, lan, and realtek HD audio drivers with out issues but now randomly my soundcard disappears. It does not show up on device manager at all when it is not working. I have had it work with both the Realtek and Microsoft sound drivers but it seems to have a mind of its own. I have reinstalled a few versions of the driver and am out of ideas.
I think my Mobo is just screwed and am dreading the RMA. The case is a P182 and it was not an easy install. I am looking for any ideas and help. The only odd thing that stands out is that i did not have any washers with the motherboard screws and i dont know if its grounding out.
Edit: Another strange fact. When installing my big typhoon I plugged the 3 pin connector into the 4 pin CPU-Fan slot on the mobo which should be fine but the fan would only spin intermittently even after disabling any type of "smart fan" settings in the bios. This is really starting to get under my skin. I am going to try vista and see how much might be software but any new Mobo recommendations would be good as well.
Thanks for the help.
