It's a tougher battle than for the general election, to be sure. The turnout sounds favorable, but the Democrats will need to press hard to convince people that the Georgia Senate runoffs matter as much as ousting Trump. Polling suggests the gap has closed or even turned in favor of Ossoff and Warnock, though, so the current strategy might be working.

You've probably seen some Republicans and their supporters effectively telling people not to vote for Loeffler and Perdue... in some ways, the Dems couldn't ask for much better help. Both GOP candidates are hamstrung. They have to acknowledge Biden won if they want to convey the importance of the vote, but acknowledging Biden's win risks angering supporters. The Dems might win simply because there's no self-sabotage involved.

I think Georgia Repubs should boycott the election because of the rigged voting machines, fake ballots & Venezuelan mind control algorithms. Just looking at a ballot with mess with your mind. Layers & patterns, man. Believe only Trump!

I'm hoping that once mail in votes are counted the Dems will have the edge. Here in Georgia almost every advertising minute on TV is an ad for, or mostly against one of the four candidates. Every day my mailbox has multiple cards that are similar to the TV ads in their negativity. I fully expect Perdue to end up getting charged with insider trading, even though a supposedly bi-partisan group of hos peers as well as the DOJ claimed to have found no wrong doing. That's kind of like when the police investigate a police officer for killing someone. "He was running away, so I had to shoot him in the back". No wrongdoing found. LOL Perdue accidentally received a text message intended for someone else in regard to a company he was once part of and still heavily invested in. He sold his stock based on that information that was unavailable to anyone outside the company. Of course the stock tanked after the info became public. Huge mistake that the SEC surely is not going to dismiss and is under investigation. Well I'm not going to write a novel here, but Perdue and Loeffler are both crooks who could give a rat's behind about Georgians

Trump and the do nothing about Covid relief Republicans may be helping the Democratic candidates more then they could know. Voters finding out they are not getting another stimulus check, or a puny one no doubt sours their wish that Perdue and Loeffler stay in office. Trump seems to be giving America the middle finger and screwing the Republican party at the same time.

Well, hope springs eternal. Reality, unfortunately, probably will produce two R's for GA senators, again. Sad.

According to one recent survey Warnock is up 7 percentage points on Loeffler, and Ossoff is up 5 percentage points on Perdue.
"
The Democrats’ lead has been attributed partly to Republican infighting over President Donald Trump’s failure to accept the 3 November election result and his unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud. In fact, the survey, which polled 800 people between 16 to 20 December, found that of those who are not voting in the Senate runoff, a disproportionate number are conservative.
More than half the people (55 per cent) who identified themselves as “very conservative” in the survey of said they are not voting in the Georgia runoff because “the voting process is rigged”. Another seven per cent of voters who identified themselves as “very conservative” told the pollsters that they are “intentionally boycotting” the January elections. However, none of those who identify as “liberal” or “very liberal” said they would be boycotting the upcoming runoff."

Polls mean squat.
[/QUOTE"
This is very true. Look at how far the Presidential polling was off. I just saw this, "While a SurveyUSA poll conducted last week said both Democrats were leading their Republican opponents, a Trafalgar Group poll conducted a few days earlier found Loeffler leading by 7 points and Perdue leading by 3. Emerson College and Insider Advantage polls from earlier this month also said the Republican candidates held narrow leads, while a new poll from Insider Advantage published Wednesday said Warnock and Perdue both had slim advantages over their competitors." WTF

I live in FL and so am not even eligible to vote in that election and I STILL have the same flood of awful ads to contend with. When does this end? Soon, I hope.

Yeah I could see how pretty much everyone would believe that, and it may be the case. But 2018 polling was accurate. My theory is that Trump has thrown off the polling by encouraging such high turnout on the right. Maybe their enthusiasm will be down for this and the polls will be correct this time.

Hey Allisolm, I live in Metcalf so all I get on a antenna are the Tallahassee stations and I feel your pain. They should stop on January 6. I saw a new ad for Loeffler tonight that was her Christmas prayer. I think she is probably about as Christian as Trump. I sort of expected to see JC at the end of the ad saying, "I'm Jesus Christ and I approve this message".

All the Dems need is ONE senator to win. May not win the senate, but just ONE Dem senator means they gain the ability to filibuster! You need 48 to filibuster a bill.

Currently you can filibuster with just 41 seats. Also, they already have 48. Getting 1 more would make it 49. They really do need both.

Not to mention legislative filibuster is almost useless when you have the House and Executive.

Thought they needed both wins to tie at 50, then they could filibuster?

This would be a HUGE win if both Dems could win in a predominately Republican state. The things that are in the Dems favor are: 1. Republicans sitting out on this because they think the election is rigged. 2. Republicans killing off the $2k stimulus bill. 3. Trump's erratic behavior. It's still a long shot, but most definitely possible. 4. Dem voters know that if they win then they control house, senate and US Presidency. This could encourage more Dem voters to get out and vote.

Dems need both seats to have a majority. This doesn’t prevent the GOP from filibustering but would allow Dems to pass bills by reconciliation once per year for each of the following, spending, revenue, and debt ceiling.

Them winning one of two doesn’t change anything. The odds are both seats will go to one party or the other. The odds of them splitting are low.

It would also, in theory, allow them to end the filibuster, but that would require 100% of their caucus to vote to do that, which seems unlikely.

Hope springs eternal may be appropriate for some situations but this ain't one of 'um for the Dems. Much more so for the Repubs seeing as if they run that state. Now if the Repubs get complacent and/or boycott because they fell for Trump's bullshit well maybe, just maybe on a long shot. I mean a really really loooong shot for the Dems.

edit - And Merry Xmas to you all. Be safe.

If both republicans win that gives Trump more claim that he too actually won. We know Trump didn't win, but that won't stop Trump from claiming a republican win equals that he too really won.

Frankly, I can't even fathom anyone voting for either of these two republicans. One with a silver spoon stuck up her backside, and the other feeding off the US taxpayer. I mean, SNL could not write a script more blatantly scandalous than the reality we see here. And.... the race is even close? WTF? Once again, it's NOT with these two republican candidates, it is who the hell would ever vote for them? What Georgia, no mass murders to chose from, or child rapist? Just thank god Charles Manson is dead or Georgia republicans would be running Charlie, and the F-ing Georgians would be voting for him. This goes beyond WTF and OMG, this is WTFOMGiswrongwiththesepeople?
