The enthusiasm was "Anything but Trump" even if the person we are electing literally said "Nothing fundamentally will change" Oh thank goodness (holds huge wad of cash against my chest).

That enthusiasm will obviously not exist in 2 years for the midterm, and it wont exist in 4 years.

I dunno what's going to happen in the next few years but Trump going away quietly isn't real high on my list of things likely to occur.

Dont don’t count your 2022 chickens before they hatch. Dems are likely to net 2 Senate seats in 2022(PA and Wisconsin). Plus you are going to have a GOP intraparty civil war. The Trumpers have already threatened to primary everyone that doesn’t supposed their coup. If moderate gop members get primaried and they lose to radical Trumper those seats will likely flip Dem.

GOP will not go to war with eachother. They will fall in line like they always do.

Just picture the face of Ted Cruz calling for donors for Trump shortly after shit-talking him.

I'm not so sure. Trump is going to be screeching for the next two years about how much of a failure the Republicans are, and how the <insert new party> is the way forward for Trumpers. I'm expecting Democrat reign for the next 12 years, minimum, unless Fox news can really get in front of this and absolutely carpet bomb Trump into oblivion.
All Fox has to do is not cover him. Putting Trump on ignore will shut him down faster than anything they could possibly say about him.

This midterm map in the Senate was not really good for Dems this year and due to Trump they flipped some seats. 2022 is better for the Dems in the Senate. The House, always up for grabs. Let's see what happens in the next 2 years.

The thing is, FOX is not the only game in town anymore, there is OANN and Newsmax and a host of other batshit networks that will be more than happy to cover Trump.

The GOP is going to be feasting on and attacking itself for the next two years. I expect to see some vicious GOP on GOP fighting today on the House and Senate floors during debate over objections to EC votes..
Generally speaking the party out of power wins seats in the midterms but to me the biggest wild cards are:

1) economic growth in 2021 and 2022 is likely to be very strong - a lot of savings have been accumulated during COVID and people are going to spend them.

2) possible Trumpist/GOP civil war. People really, really hate Trump but Republicans (at least for the moment) are being forced by their base to continue his legacy. If they have to keep running on a return to Trumpism that could be a big problem.

The main issue for the Democrats is that to keep the house they will once again have to secure a blowout win. If they only win the popular vote by say, 3-4 points they probably lose the house and then of course you have dumb people saying 'america repudiated Biden' even though Biden's side got the most votes.

They gotta do better than that, they have to convince the rubes watching his Next Big Thing that he's actually a traitor, and they should look at the newly refreshed Republican party instead. R's have been squeaking by as it is, they can't afford to lose 20% of the crazies to Trump and those in his orbit, they NEED those crazies.

Republicans have dedication in their ranks. They don't care what puppet is up on stage unlike Democrats who entirely depend on it being a young and enthusiastic person.
Well that had occurred to me, but it also appears to me that the GA runoff belies that “anybody but Trump”. Trump wasn’t on the ticket and these senators don’t have any affect on him. Dems managed to pull this one out though and turnout while down from November was still higher than normal.

I think it’s too soon to tell if 2022 will be back to business as usual (majority party losing support) or if we’ll see a longer term change.

Let's hope the Dems don't blow it again like they did in 2009. I know the game for Reps now is to jack up demands and expectations on Dems to impossible heights but the fact is that the Dems do have to deliver something big for the American people in the next two years or its 2010 all over again. If the Dems go with half assed corporatist crap like the ACA again, they'll be out on their asses again.

Turnout was actually *higher* than it was in the 2016 general election. That's *nuts* for a runoff.

I fully suspect that OANN and Newsmax at some point in the future will be either bankrupt or wholly owned subsidiaries of a couple of voting machine companies (once the defamation lawsuits are all finished).

I think the key for Dems to never lose again is to motivate its base to get out and vote, and show what can happen (Trump) if you get lax on pushing the importance of voting and the consequences of. I expect to see higher turnout going forward. Well i hope so anyways. People can be dumb, so have to factor that in.

I wish it cost them everything. More like it cost them two years (at most) of a weak minority in all parts of government...except the Supreme Court where they got a majority for potentially decades.

So now Democrats have to get to work quickly, before any Democratic senator has to resign (or worse), and hope the Supremes don't overrule them in the end.

I look at it this way: presidents up for reelection often have the wind in their sails, and it could have been so easy for Trump to secure a second term if he were vaguely competent and compassionate. But because he's Trump, the GOP managed to lose control of the presidency, House and Senate in one term.

We'll see about how long control lasts. You could be right, but I also think the past four years have taught us that old patterns don't necessarily apply any more. Goodness knows the Dems won't be complacent in 2022 knowing what happened the last time they let their guard down.

Second seat not locked yet?

FAUX Snooze had a powerhouse package of sports and entertainment channels that most cable systems really couldn't choose not to carry. The other two are propaganda orphans.

Unsurprising results, given that causing the Republicans to lose the rest of the control of government was Trump's ultimate endgame in the first place.
