It's been happening for a while I guess, sad thing is I'm only 20 Never used any steroids or any recreational drugs. I'll get a picture up later to show how far along it is. But basically what I'm asking now is what are the best procedures I can do to possibly get my hair back? I've seen Rogain foam ads on TV but I'm not sure about other brands. And is there an average time it takes to start seeing improvement? I know next to nothing about treatments and just decided this week that I'd better start looking into them. Thanks.

Rogaine+ Finpecia + Nizerol shampoo= win

Finpecia is generic Propecia and you can get it at inhousepharmacy.com, same with Nizerol
Rogaine you can get anywhere, even ebay for cheap.

Finpecia stops the loss, Rogaine helps regrow, Nizerol helps a bit too. Use Rogaine once in morning, once at night. Take one pill of finpecia a day, and use Nizerol once every 3 or 4 days.

Give it 3-9 months for first signs of improvement. You will see it improve gradually more and more over the years. I am at 3 years. Started losing it when I was about 20, then rapidly at 22. Now I am almost 25 and back to where I was at 18.

Nip it in the bud while you can man, no shame in caring about your looks. Hope that helps!

What are the side effects of this stuff? How much is it costing you?

Side effects for me were:

-Shedding (rapid loss of hair) in the beginning that would come in spurts every 2 or 3 weeks. It stops after 3 to 6 months though.

-Some say they have sexual side effects but I never did. (Wifey sure wasnt complainin)

-No other side effects to speak of for me at least.

Cost:

Its about $100 for 180 tablets of Fin. $15/month

Rogaine is $30 for 3 month supply, but i find you can double that depending on how much area to cover. $5-10 month

Nizeral AD is about $10 a bottle and will last 4-5 months give or take. AD is 1% ketoconazole (active ingrediant). The 2% stuff you need a prescription for I think and is more expensive. $2/month

So all in all about $20-$30 a month, but its a small price to pay..trust me.

Yea, the price is definitely not bad, but the possible side effects... Well, some of those look like they may not be worth it

The shedding is common and is not noticeable to anyone else but yourself really.

If you have a loss in sex drive and its not worth it, you can just quit eh.

shave everything, get some earrings, and rock it me clean style

I had this talk the other night with my family. I told them if I started balding like my pops, I would just shave everything off. My uncle spent like 7k a few years ago for hair plugs or something (surgical) and it didnt do shit.

I am not sure how the products listed above work, but for the money, definitely go with that option first.

I'll second most of what ryan said. A couple things, though.

1. Get your Nizoral in 2% strength instead of 1%. You can get this at any online pharmacy along with your propecia generics.
2. Cut your propecia (I'm just going to call it by it's brand name) pills up into 1/4 parts. Most people I've seen on hair forums do this. This will give you 1.25 mg per dose which is more than enough to be effective and will greatly reduce your risk of side effects. If you're not into cutting them you can dissolve you pills in alcohol. Propecia dissolves completely in alcohol so you could dissolve a few pills in your liquor of choice and use an oral syringe to measure out the correct amount ever day.
3. Good places are inhousepharmacy (I've always heard good things) unitedpharmacies (I've ordered from them and I recommend them. One other place you might want to check out is alldaychemist.com. I've never ordered from them but my gf has retin-a and the like and she's always been satisfied. I only mention them because they're so ridiculously cheap. I'll be checking them out here soon.
4. Speaking of retin-a, it seems to have some synergistic effect with rogaine so get some of that too. If nothing else it's good for your skin anyway.

I just gave up the pretense and decided it was time to do something a few weeks ago so I've been doing a ton of research and reading lately...

My hair started to thin out when I was 22-23ish. I started to shave my head last year at the age of 26 and would never go back...Once you get used to having a clean shaven head and get a shaving routine down, you will never feel the need to have hair again, at least I don't.

To me the most difficult part was just accepting the fact I was going bald. Once I got over that and started to shave my head it all became gravy...I actually think I look better clean shaven then I did with hair.

Eh, join the club. Mine's gone up about 3" on the left within 2 months, and I'm only 25

Might be worth getting a blood test for thyroid disease, I've read that it can cause hair loss.

Watch out for sunburns. One of my friends has been balding for awhile and keeps his remaining hair really short. He usually gets a sunburn in early summer each year and he says that it hurts worse than normal ones.

I'll second this recommendation. I've been following it for 4 years now and have effectively halted my hairloss. I take a pic once per month after each haircut to track my progress.

Another option for the finasteride (active ingredient in propecia) is to see a dermatologist and ask if they will write you a prescription for generic proscar. Proscar has the exact same active ingredient as propecia but is available in 5mg pills. If you can get a prescription, you can cut the pills into 4ths using a pill cutter and take a fourth of a pill each day. If you have a decent prescription drug plan and can get the generic version, the price of going this route is almost the same as ordering from one of the online pharmacies, plus you have the peace of mind of knowing your medicine is legit.

I had previously purchased my finasteride online under the brand name Fincar (Indian generic version of proscar) but obtained a prescription for real generic proscar last fall. Fincar has the same active ingredient as finpecia, but comes in a 5mg pill instead of a 1mg pill. If you must order through an online pharmacy, it's much more cost effective to order the fincar as opposed to the finpecia.

I've used Nizoral shampoo 2% once a week for several years now. I got it from Canada via eBay. Just checked and I don't see the 2% available now. I let the shampoo soak into the scalp for 10 to 15 minutes. No logical reason why - just my routine...
Can't say it prevented male pattern baldness, but I do still have a full head of hair - LOL.

I hate to say it, but you might have lost far too much hair to really see any benefit from using the products mentioned in this thread. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try, but don't expect any miracles.

The good news is you don't appear to have a misshapen head with any visible scars.
I'd opt for the Mr. Clean look if I was you...

Wow, I'm sorry man. I'm 22 (23 in 2 months) and my hair line is receding heavily, but nowhere near that. I'm at the point where if my 'recession' suddenly stopped, I'd still have a full head of hair.

Not much you can do now. Rogaine 'may' help, but all the other propecia stuff is more for keeping what you have than making back what's gone.

Honestly though, forget about the drugs. I've been reading up and side-effects appear to be underreported. There's a chance of going impotent and losing your 'urges', even if you get off the drug. The long-term effects are not as clear, and only starting to get more coverage. Seeing as how you want the hair for confidence and to "do" those side-effect things, you gotta ask yourself if it's worth the risk.

Personally, I'm going just going to shave it short and eventually start bic-ing it.

I started balding about the same time, around age 20. Balding is the dominant gene. When I balded it sort of bothered me, I'd wear baseball caps, and such, but then I realized about a year later that it wasn't that big of a deal. I stopped hiding it or caring.

When I hit around 27 I just started shaving it and to be honest, alot of women actually like the bald look. I dated one chick who told me to grow my hair out, but she was one of those flakey girls who hooked up random guys at the bar, and not my type. I even get gals hitting on me at work just because I'm bald. They will say "Oh, I love bald heads" and they giggle like school girls. Two of them even interrupted a meeting I was having with another bald guy just to tell us how much they liked bald heads.

My suggestion, take what God gave you (if you believe in such a thing) and don't be ashamed. Nobody is perfect, and as long as you feel good about it and not be embassed about it, then its likely nobody else will either!

There's even times when my hair grows back slightly (new hairs where it has normally went away.) I think I notice it most when I sweat alot and eat better, like when I'd eat sandwhiches for days straight and work on the house all weekend and sweat alot. Thats the only advice I can give you.

I did work with another guy who had his hair go and he used propecia or whatever and it seemed to work ok with him. He didn't grow much back but he stopped losing it.
