Gainward Geforce 4 4200 128mb gold sample woes.

I have tried 2 motherboards kk266 and kk266 plus raid, both latest bios's. I have yet been able to do a clean install with this new video card. Today i exchanged it in the hopes that it was a defective card. During installation of win 2k or winxp. Setup will say that setup is starting window and it will go to a black screen and freeze. But i can install if i use an old geforce2.

Have you tried installing the card after you have already installed windows? Try installing windows with the old GF2. Then install the newest detonators and then swap in the new card.

Yes. I will start the install with a geforce2. And at the first reboot i shut down the pc. I swap vidcards, and everything goes smooth. The problem is....i need to make sure i have another video card everytime i want to do a clean install.

Do you have the latest BIOS for your video card?
Also if you're overclocking anything definitely put at stock speeds for the duration of the Windows install.

Let me add: Gainward is a very reputable company. And that I believe this is a semi isolated case.

Yes, I am running the latest bios for this card. Latest bios for the motherboard as well. I am also using a liteon monitor.

New mobo and ram. Epox 8k5a3+ and corsair 3200 512 cas 2. System is perfect it seems. The only variables are ethernet card, promise fasttrack raid adapter, and motherboard.

Have you turned off Fast Writes and Video/BIOS shadowing in the BIOS settings? I used to have problems with Fast Writes enabled.
