I received my replacement Gainward Ti4400 and everything seems to be running okay (no more artifacts) however, whenever I play Quake 3 for about 5 minutes, I get knocked out of the game with a Windows XP error stating their is something wrong with the quake.exe file. Using the 28.32 drivers and tried re-installing Quake 3 with no solution. When I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Windows XP kicks me out of the game with a blue screen that I can only see for a split second before rebooting automatically.

Anyone experience this same problem before?

Well, I think I figured out my problem..the Gainward Ti4400 does not like ANYTHING overclocked. My 512MB Crucial DDR settings was at 2-2-2 and then back to 2.5-3-3. Then I flashed the latest BIOS for my Asus P4S533 to ver. 1007 and left most of the BIOS settings at default. So far no more random reboots during RTCW, Q3 or CS.

I was able to run 1.6A@2133, 2-2-2 with my ATI Radeon 8500 rock solid.

Add me to the list! Gainward Ti4400 with the same garbage output. Darn shame too, as I had heard so many good things about gainward. Now question is RMA to Gainward or go for something different from Newegg, if they will go for that.
Will have the system overclocked, anyone else know of any issues regarding this card in an overclocked system?

I recommend you send it back to gainward. They turned it around inside of 24 hours upon receipt. They're apparently familiar with these problems so they've probably got a batch set aside that's a different revision or whatnot. If you return it to newegg you're likely to get a more dated version.

BMW, my system is an overclocked athlon with abit kr7-a raid, 2cas timing on 3cas ram. I'm overclocking the card as well to 300/650. It's been rock solid, I get really good framerates in RTCW 1600x1200. Keep at it, hopefully you can find something that works good for you.

Also to add: given the price I paid ($209) it was well worth the hassle. I'd of paid more for this card with glee. Now that's it's solid the vivo and improved performance over my gf3 has made me a happy camper. =)

Really, my card seems not to like anything overclocked. I'm going to run it again overclocked and see if it randomly reboots.

Thanks for your input.

Just got off the phone with support at Gainward. very easy to deal with. Got the rma number, they said that as of last Friday (a week ago) cards should be good, "99% stable". Problem was bad memory on the cards. They will pre-test it, but said that the issue is now resolved and so shouldn't be any more problems.

I got my card, and all these blocks and windows came up and I don't know what to do. Took me forever to find this forum with this info, thought I got the one and a million.

I just bought a new comp cause I thought my old one couldn't support it but I guess it's just defective.
Hmmm, I want the VIVO so bad, but Gainward is the only seller of the VIVO GF 4's so I'm not sure what to do, because I definately don't want to get another defective card.

Any ideas?...
Thanks

Try a MSI GF4 TI4400, they have VIVO and supposedly are higher overclockers than the Gainward ones.

Has anyone here use the video editing software ( Winproducer, Wincoder ) that come with the MSI GF4 TI4400? Were you happy with the results? ( like capturing to MPEG 2 ) Also, is this software full ver. or lite ver.

I followed iwearnosox advice from this thread. Got a refurb Gainward 4400 from newegg last week, and had the same garbage problem. RMA'd to Gainward with really no questions asked. They just said "These are hard cards to make", and sent me a replacement (make sure you ask for a replacement). I am now fully operational.

Replying to Drol's comments about S/N -- my first was GLC 502XX and the second (working one) is GLD 387XX.

One theory I've heard on other boards is that those of us who got bad refurbs from newegg basically just got bad cards that were returned to newegg and never tested. That is probably really unfair to say about newegg (who I really like and who is really well regarded by everyone), but I just haven't heard of people having problems with other vendors.

To BMW -- I am also overclocking my system (it's old, next in line to upgrade!!). I have a PIII 600 o/c to 800 (fsb to 133), and having no problems whatsoever. Keep trying to see what works with your setup./

I'll just throw this out for what its worth.
I have seen a report where the digital to analogue connections (Gainwards usually have DVI-I) are causing harmonics with the ramdac.
Changed colors on connector may mean they have changed vendors for that item. cable lengths are also important.
If someone has the energy to test this, they may want to try the defective Ti4600/4400 straight from DVI on card out to an LCD with a DVI-I input, bypassing ramdac.
Could also be BGA ram connect pads not making full contact after HS being glued on.

Whatever, just a thought.
