Hi guys, I hope somebody has a magic fix for me!
I have a system configured as follows: ECS K7S5a, Athlon XP 1800+, 512 pc133 crucial, audigy, enermax 351 watt PS, WinXP. I have been running happily like this for some time now, using my trusty Elsa Geforce2 GTS. I got a Gainward Geforce3 Ti200 to put in there, and it seems to have been a mistake. With the drivers supplied by Gainward, both Half-life and RTCW hang the system as soon as I start either one up - before I even get to the game menus. With the newest detonators, the games work fine through the menu system, but once I try to actually start a game, the screen blanks - the monitor reports that there is no signal. However, the system isn't frozen; if I type ~exit to get out of half-life, windows comes back to life and everything seems fine. Also, one other thing - when I try to do video playback in Windows Media Player, it just rebooted the system with no warning whatsoever. Neat, huh? Any ideas, anyone? I put my GF2 back in, and everything works flawlessly.
To complicate matters further, I'm not sure whom to turn to if the card is bad. I bought it from newegg, who says that I should contact the manufacturer, and gainward says that all support is through the reseller. Do I have any recourse (provided I can't get it working) other than returning it to newegg and paying the 15% restocking fee?
