Gainward Ti4200 early impressions?

OK, I was among those who got in on newegg's *second* Gainward Golden Sample Ti4200 128MB 4ns RAM order. I'm tracking mine on FedEx as we speak.

For those who already have 'em, can I get some early impressions? Based on specs, it appeared they really were going after the nVidia Ti4200 reference that was published before the decision to have two different Ti4200 offerings (128MB and 64MB).

Will the Gainward Golden Sample run at 500MHz (memory) out of the box?

Got my Gainward Golden Sample Ti4200 128MB from atacom today.

I have it running now at 250core/513memory clock, yes, that is what is allowed by Gainward's Expert Tool overclocking utility which keeps it under warrantee.

I did try 310 MHz / 550 MHz , but after an hour of gaming I started getting artifacts, white dots appearing and disappearing.

Very happy with the card though. I'm using the nvidia 28.32 drivers. There are many settings you can control using riva tuner, I'd like to learn what they mean and the best settings. I've found I get higher fps in games with vsync disabled.

i need some advice.. should i wait for the other big name companies like visiontek or leadtek or msi... the reason iw anna get the Gainward is because of its 250mhz core speed and 500mhz DDR ram speed... instead of 444mhz.. thats amazing.. and awesome best bang for the buck

I would bet money that atacom delivers internationally.

If i understand your other question correctly, the answer is that the "Golden Sample" versions of the Gainward cards are their highest quality products and can be overclocked somewhat using their ExperTool software while remaining under warrantee.

whats the difference between Golden Sample and Videon in and Video out?

These are 2 different things. Gainward has a Golden Sample labeled card, which just means it's made for some overclocking of the core and the ram. Video in Video out (VIVO) is just a way to get analog signals into your computer (for video editing), and a way to send one out (for production of your editing).

so i should get the golden sample right? the other regular one cannot be overclocked right?

btw, is the gainward ti 4200 's default ram speed 500mhz ? meaning right out of the box it is 500mhz not after overclocking...?

Out of the box, it is 250/444.

using Gainward's ExperTool it becomes 250/520, while still under warrantee.

I checked out http://www.unitedmicro.com/comp_main.htm, nope, that's not the Golden Sample , which would be clearly marked with a gold seal on the left side of the fron of the box.

I suppose the non-golden sample can be overclocked, but possibly not as reliably. Overclocking is always taking somewhat of a chance, with the exception of what Gainward does with their Golden Sample series and their overclocking utility (Expert Tool). That, in essence, is guaranteed overclocking.

SilentScope, I'm also from Canada. Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a Gainward product sold here in Toronto. I've failed to find any online stores that ships GW Ti4200 to Canada.
If you do find one, please keep us informed! thanks

I bet the golden goose and the regular Gainward Ti 4200 are the same, just trying to make few extra bucks on people who want to spend more.

Well that's cynical, but entirely possible. Could be that the extra cash merely covers their expenses with what amounts to an extended warrantee.

ncix.com is a vancouver based company which carry some gainward cards.

They don't currently have the gainward 4200's listed yet, but they do have the Visiontek 4200 listed. OEM = $291 CAD, RETAIL = 351 CAD

Thanks for the site! Too bad, the OEM version has been removed. I think I'll just wait for the OEMs start to appear locally. The price differential is quite substantial.

Ya, I am aware that it is a VisionTech ... I don't care about overclocking, this thing is going to be a huge improvement over the GEforce2 GTS that I have right now. To be quite honest, I have spend many hours overclocking systems over the last few years, and have kinda given up on it as the useability of the gains are questionable. I Have returned my XP1900 to stock.. as I feel why bother? Equipment nowadays is so powerful and I never seem to use it to its full potential. Besides, at the price I am paying for the VisionTech , I cant go wrong, $291.00 Canadian Dollars - $180.74 american for the 128 version of the card... not bad at all

yeah I agree. The cards are already good enough for avg gaming needs. I remember the days when I was having so much fun playing Quake III with pitiful 60+ frame rate under 800X600.
If you wanna get a Ti4200 now, get a OEM. It doesn't really make any sense to spend $220 on a Gainward Golden Sample, but not adding 10 more bucks to get a Ti4400.
