I currently own a Galaxy Note 2 and love it for its great battery life and performance. I also own an outdated iPad 2. Considering updating it to an iPad Mini or 3rd Gen which would add a retina display. I mainly use my tablet for some gaming, reading on kindle app, rss feeds & web browsing. My question would be is a 7.9" tablet not necessary considering I have a 5.5" phone or should I stick to a 10" tablet which would be kept mainly at home/school? Anyone in a similar situation?

The Note 2 is practically a "mini" tablet size already, so unless you have a need for a larger 10" screen for movies/games/reading that the Note screen isn't big enough for, or unless you just want more toys, I don't think a tablet will be particularly useful to you.

Yah If the Note II were pure Android and weren't subsidized by carriers I would have picked it over N4/N7 combo.

I have a Note 2 & Note 10.1. I sync all my s-notes between both. Perfect combo.

There's so many features that Samsung added I honestly think you'd be missing out on what makes it great if it were pure. That multi Window view mode is a Touchwiz feature IIRC, but is a huge part of the devices appeal. Honestly if it were a Nexus device I don't think it would be as big of a game changer. You can easily find a debloated Touchwiz rom for it though if you want it clean but still want all the features that make it special.

Personally in that scenario I'd just wait. I can't think of anything the iPad 2 couldn't do that some other tablet could really offer. With each new iteration I feel like they've been improving across the board, which that coupled with what I think will be a big shift in performance from A15 based chips (or possibly Haswell or Atom) would be worth waiting a bit. If nothing else wait for the Mini with Retina display.

I use an iPad 3 with my Note 2 and I honestly think it's a little too big. I've been debating on getting an iPad mini or Nexus 7 as a replacement.
