Deny all plausibility seem to be that of corporate culture, and admitting fault/guilt would open up the rabbit hole to design/engineering/vendor issues that it'll make consumers leery to that specific aspect when purchasing a new phone (from Samsung).

I'd have thought that the way that they would want to go would be "We have identified the fault as XXX and have done YYY to eliminate it in our subsequent releases." That would reassure customers more than corporate silence.

Whether they will be able to identify a fairly rare fault is another issue.

If they can't convince the public they know what went wrong and that it's truly "fixed" in the S8, then they're done in the flagship segment. They could have gotten by a bit with smoke and mirrors if they had gotten the first recall right and the issues didn't continue.
From a consumer standpoint I agree, though I'm thinking back of how many companies actually publicly apologize for the piss poor work of their products. Did Microsoft admit wrongdoing for the ill-fated release of ME? Did Apple admit to faulty design of antenna/bendgate? Etc. Feel free to correct me.

I just think that it's only 1 phone that has catastrophically cause a massive recall at this scale, it's not like their tablets, s-series, c-series, J-series, etc product spontaneously combust as well. Sure, there are outliers of people misusing or actual defect that somehow escape the QA process, but I highly doubt that people would need some kind if assurance or hard data explanation from Samsung into the explosion before they'll purchase another device.

Again, as a consumer I agree that the cause should be transparent, but they've already recall the product, they've refund the money, and I'm sure people who were directly injured by it will settle out of court, but I doubt we'll get the straight answer from Samsung as to the primary cause of the explosion, if they did figure it out.

None of them apologized, although to be fair at least Antennagate was overblown (the iPhone 4 went on to record sales, and complaints all but disappeared even after they stopped handing out free bumpers). That and there's a difference between your product not working as well as it could versus, well, bursting into flames. One is a hassle; the other could burn your house down.

guys chill out please...
Even the n7 vs IP7 debate that happened in this thread did not get this heated up.

Want to prove a point link reputable sources to back up statements.
And leave the baiting / call outs out of it.

yeah my mom was telling me about it as well as she heard it from MBC news.
Suposidely they are gonna allow all the people affected by this to swap to a edge 7, and then later on get the note 8 upgrade for free as an apology.

I am gonna hold onto my note 7 just a bit longer to see what really happens, but i am glad i didnt change my phone to a LG V20.

My lgv20 came in and I hate it so far.

What are you going to do if you don't warm up to it? Grab a Pixel XL?

Either way, this is why LG might not want to cheer too loudly at watching its main rival flounder. The V20 would have to be a surefire hit for Note 7 refugees to adopt it in droves. Like it or not, Apple is probably going to be the main recipient of any defectors.

I may still use my Note 7 until I can swap for a Note 8 or whatever they call it. The lgv20 has the same mediocre screen as my lgv10, the camera IMO is better on the lgv10. The fingerprint scanner on the lgv20 is way to sensitive. You just need to touch it and it unlocks the phone. The quad dac is nice but I use an external dac so not really necessary. I know its no note 7 but its not a viable alternative. Neither is any iphone for that matter. I have an iphone 7 and barely use it as its, well, an iphone. The only real alternative is the s7 edge which I already have as well. Sigh, samsung is the worse drug dealer. Getting you all hooked on the note 7 then taking it away.

From the sounds of it, you'd probably be best consolidating around the S7 Edge until the Note 8 hits. Hopefully you can get a refund or an exchange for another phone you might be interested in.

Personally, I like very sensitive fingerprint readers, but that's also coming from the iPhone 7... it's fast, but you don't risk blowing past your lock screen notifications if you don't want to.

At least for Sprint, the CEO did state in their earning that most Note 7 users are simply switching to a S7 variant and not to a new brand.

Probably a rare occurrence that's only being reported due to hypervigilence in this post-Note 7 news cycle. If there were dozens of unique reports I would say you can be concerned.
Given how many S7/S7Es were sold I'd be very surprised if as few as dozens had suffered catastrophic battery failure. Likewise for the iPhone7.

So we now know: the Galaxy Note 7 debacle had a serious impact on Samsung's performance (though it probably wasn't the only factor). Both shipments and market share were down by significant margins... share is its lowest in about two years.

Also, its mobile division's profit was its lowest since 2008, although you could say the upside is that it still turned a profit despite one of the worst incidents in company history. The real concern is whether or not the Note 7's absence drags things down until the S8, if not later.

This isn't strictly schadenfreude, because I have to feel for those Samsung workers (including in management) who were simply doing their best or meant well. And the Note 7 was a fine phone outside of its battery flaw. However, I can only imagine that somewhere, Achtung is bawling his eyes out... Samsung promised him an inevitable eternal monopoly on phones, and it let him down.

Well, Tmo data stopped working on my Note 7. Can still make calls and texts tho. The odd thing is my tmo sim works in all my other phones and my VZW sim works in my note 7. Its just the combo tmo sim and note 7 that doesnt work. Called VZW and they are sending me a firebox and will credit my account. Using the LGv20 and S7 Edge now. Sad sad sad. I asked verizon where does the firebox go and they said it ships directly to samsung. Once sammy gets it I get credited. I'm sure that will take months. A part of me wants to send an empty box to sammy.

That's probably more to do with the rise of Chinese OEMs than the Note 7. Apple seems to be suffering a similar problem. (Although I am reading that article on a phone so I may have missed some detail)

Think we see the return of removable battery for the next Note like phone?

I'd bet no, waterproofing is a big reason, plus it helps push sales for when the battery wears out, how many people have the battery replaced on sealed phones?

Take the LG back then. Curious why you choose to keep the Note 7 when you know it's junk? I was waiting to board my flight and you can't even board an airplane with one without great hassle?

I did. Using the lgv20 now. Put the note in a fireproof cabinet at work until the box comes in.

Just put the V20 in the box. Problem solved and message sent to Sammy and LG.

You're certainly right, although there were, what, 2.5 million Notes shipped (less than that sold)? That would take a big bite out of Samsung's shipment expectations, even though it's not the majority.
