It's a mighty fine phone, but I realize now I'm not that excited about it because it wouldn't be an upgrade in the display for me as a Note 4 user. I think it would be nice if the Note series became 6" or so. It would better distinguish it from the S series if that's going to be available as ~5.5" from now on. It would provide more space for using the S pen. It would allow for a bigger battery. And with the curved edges now, it probably wouldn't even be any wider than the Note 3/4.
I hope they start expanding their portfolio soon in that regards.

Look at the huawei mate 8, xiaomi mi max, asus zenfone 3 ultra, and other +6in phones selling like hotcakes over in the Asian market yet Samsung is still dicking around with 5.5, 5.6, 5.7in phones like they need to find a sweet spot. The 6incher they do have is a poorly made midranger that gets little to no love by reviewers out there.

I get that they're following in synchronous steps with Apple's gameplan by releasing phones with little updates here and there while continually jacking up the price, but there will come a point where profits will start slipping and we're all going to say "I told you so."

Well, I went in complaining about the edge screen, expecting it to be the side bezels of the phone like the S7E, but after holding one at Best Buy yesterday, I put in my preorder for a Coral Blue Note 7. My only question now, is to get the Fit2 and sell it, or get the 256gb uSD card.

Battery life, easier to hold, waterproof.

64gb storage.

Galaxy Note 7 tops every other phone display ever, testing firm says
Samsung's soon-to-be-released phone-tablet hybrid scores "very good" to "excellent" in virtually all measures of its display, according to DisplayMate.

"The Galaxy Note 7 provides many major and important state-of-the-art display enhancements, with mobile OLED display technology now advancing faster than ever," Soneira said. "The Galaxy Note 7 is the most innovative and high-performance smartphone display that we have ever tested."

------
All I can say is I was wowed when I saw the screen on the Note 7. Everything about it- the colors, sharpness, black levels, edge screen, etc. just popped.

Now if we could just get that in a 4" size in an iPhone, that'd be great!

What for?
People using small phones are mostly there just for IM. Not much use in putting a really high grade screen on there, when most of them will not b able to appreciate it.

Don't make assumptions about what people use their phones for . What's wrong with wanting a Note 7 screen in 4" on an iPhone? I think the brighter screen and more vibrant colours would be a benefit (to some).

A super-dense OLED display is fine on virtually any device -- it's just a question of whether or not the cost and battery life are acceptable. If an iPhone SE with a Quad HD AMOLED screen had the same price and battery life as today's LCD model, you'd better believe that people would appreciate it.

Heh a 1080p AMOLED screen with the Note 7 tech in brightness and gamut would be 550dpi on a 4" screen. The A9, much less the A10, would be able to drive it easily and would pretty great.

Sorry about that, but it's stronger than me. I'm surrounded by iPhone using aunts and uncles, but not much other demographics.
But also, a tiny screen just does not lend itself to be used in some ways.

Tiny screen + thin device + super dense and bright screen + miniature battery = good luck with that

I'm honestly surprised at the preorder volumes for the Note 7. Considering it's mostly an expanded S7 Edge, I would have thought more people would have fallen into my segment - long time Note user but prefer to pickup a cheaper S7 Edge.

I suppose there might be a larger than expected group of Note 4 users who were disappointed by the Note 5 and are upgrading to the 7.

I would have kept my note 4 but the GPS went out on it a few weeks ago and I couldn't get it working again, so I preordered a Note7.

I myself always got the note and the galaxy numbered phones. I passed up on both the s6 and the note 5 because they took too many things away. I got the s7 edge mainly for the superior camera and the reincluded sd slot. I also ordered the note 7 because I love the note series and my note 4 is getting long in the tooth.

I was going to buy a Note 5 but because of it being such a disappointment (removal of expandable storage), I held off. I can imagine many others felt the same.

Preordered one in Black. Also got the 'free' Gear S2 Watch. (Though of course it isn't free since it's $10 a month to use it with my data connection, but I digress.)

I fit the profile pretty well... Note 4 owner, skipped the N5, held off on all other non-Notes -though the S7 was highly tempting- and now all-in on the N7.

No 256GB SD card right away, but in perspective that would give my phone more storage than my 256GB MacBook Pro! 64+64 will tide me over, but really nice knowing the ability is back.

Sweet spot seems to be 200GB cards at $80 or so. I've been rocking one in my S7 Edge with no issues taking video, photos, and holding a crapton of media.

Amazes me how price keeps going down, capacities up with mSD!

It also puzzles me why on earth Samsung- a major MAKER of mSD cards- ever thought it was a great idea to eliminate their use from a product line they make?

It's just funny how bass-ackwards mSD usage is for mobile devices. Back in the day when piddly amounts like 4GB, 8GB were common mSD sizes, so many more devices had mSD capacity. "Yay! I can add a whopping 4GB to my phone!"

Now with 200GB a mere $79? 64GB for like $15, etc?

NOW's the time to phase them out!

With the iPhone 7 not having OLED, looks like the Note 7 is the prime candidate for my next phone. I might try to hold off til next year or a good promotion (kinda wished I'd gotten in on the buy one get one + on the S7) though as none of the phones really do it for me this year. Unless LG surprises by going OLED on the V20.

I think Samsung really missed having a simple way of making the Note 7 really wow, and that would be making it the VR/AR phone by putting dual camera modules. Would enable shooting VR/3D video, and would have been the pinnacle for AR when paired with the Gear VR. It could be used for 3D mapping features as well. And they could make a premium VR headset that adds stuff like infrared capability (for stuff like night vision and thermal imaging).

Amazes me how price keeps going down, capacities up with mSD!

If Samsung had done something like pushing for upgrading to higher internal capacities, you could have made the argument they did it to push the profitability of their phones up, but they really didn't do that. I think it simply came down to they couldn't implement it in the design of the S6 and Note 5, and they were aiming to wow people with the design and knew they could add it back with a later iteration, so it wasn't a big issue. Samsung only removed it for one year, and look what happened when they brought it back. The S7 and Note 7 appear to be selling very well.

MicroSD support seems to be as prevalent now as it ever was though.

Now, we'll see how Samsung will start pushing their new memory card format.

I pre-ordered through Best Buy so I could get the 256gb uSD card. I was going to get the Fit2 watch, but I think it'll be difficult to sell around here.

There are a few other features that the Note 7 has that the Edge lacks. It can take notes even with the display off, the always on display feature has been tweaked to show third party messages (very useful), iris scanner which apparently is very impressive, gorilla glass 5, and despite having the same camera they've tweaked the software for better HDR.

I'm hoping some of these software features will make it to the galaxy s7/edge though. Especially the always on display change.

Got an email from T-mobile last night that my Note7 is getting ready to ship.

I'll miss the IR blaster and swappable battery on my Note4, but am looking forward to the better camera.

Yep, VZW sent me tracking info. Should be here Thursday. Hopefully I can get LTE on it when I pop in my TMO sim. Wishing its all automatic without putting in any APN stuff. I actually bought the same 2 cases I use for my S7 Edge for the Note 7.

I have a Note 3 and my wife an S7. I don't get all that excited about her phone. The differences to me are really on paper IMO. In real-world use, I think the camera takes slightly better pics and the water-proof feature is reassuring and that's about it. I wanted to get a Note 7 (because my screen is somewhat damaged at the bezels), but if it's anything like an S7, I'm not paying anything over $400 for one. Maybe not even $300.

In short, people are min/maxing. I don't mind doing that, but not at these price tags.

In even shorter, some y'all are nuts. But, tech forum.

Will be switching from the S7 Edge to a Note 7. I really like the symmetrical design on the sides of the phone, and the screen edge is better done on the Note as well. Plus it'll be great to have the S Pen again.

The Verge just gave the Galaxy Note 7 a 9.3/10... the highest out of any Samsung smartphone ever achieved..

http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/16/12491196/samsung-galaxy-note-7-review

Even BGR, an equally pro-Apple site as the Verge, is worried about Apple:

http://bgr.com/2016/08/16/samsung-galaxy-note-7-review/

While nothing is official until Apple makes it so, there’s little doubt in most industry watchers’ minds that we know practically everything there is to know about the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus. It’s going to look eerily similar to the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus, but with a few minor design tweaks. It’ll also feature a new dual camera setup and upgraded specs but apart from that, it will for the most part be a faster iPhone 6s Plus. To be frank, the iPhone 6s Plus is a great smartphone but a pretty lousy phablet, and we likely shouldn’t expect much more from the new iPhone 7 Plus.
