I know there's a "Note 6" thread, but, well... it's not called the Note 6, is it?

The Galaxy Note 7 has officially arrived.

It's definitely an iterative design like the S7 was, but that's not a bad thing. I'm curious to see how practical the iris scanner is in reality. The catch is whether or not it'll be useful beyond unlocking the phone or (eventually) logging into accounts, but that'll likely be enough.

Also, if I was going to get one, I'd totally get it in that robin's egg blue.

So barely a bigger battery than the Note 4? And no flat screen option? Pass.

Not sure that comparing battery capacity to a 2 year old device is relevant. The Note 4's screen was a battery hog and the SoC wasn't that great either. With a smaller battery, the Note 5 was as good if not better.

3500MAh battery with bigger 5.7" screen vs 3600MAh battery on S7 Edge with 5.5" screen. Same internal specs basically...

Looks like I'll be seeking out a used S7 Edge for significantly cheaper than a new Note 7.

That, or wait for the Nexus 2016 with supposed Snapdragon 821...but the S7 Edge/Note7 will still probably have a better camera than the Nexus 2016

I was trying to think of an equal to Godzilla fans. Fan rage where you least expect it, and a disdain for anything bearing the name of the object you love.
Then I read this thread and found it. Thank you guys.
Maybe you should buy every Note 3 and 4 and entomb and preserve them. Honor it well. The blessings of the Note are upon you.

T-mobile gives you a choice of 1 year netflix, gear fit 2 or 256gb microsd.

So what other options are there to consider?
I need to upgrade my Note 2 because of the lack of 1900mhz and band 12 is starting to become an issue(I'm on Tmobile)

I really don't like the idea of a non-removable battery especially in a $800 phone.

Extremely Disappointed with Note 7. I have an S7 edge and this is the same with a stylus.

The battery on the S7 edge is varely adequate and the note 7 is slighty bigger with smaller battery.
I was hoping with the S7 edge being 5.5 inches that they increase the size of the note, but no dice.
I actually don't like the edge screen and I was hoping for at least a regular Note with no edge screen.
Alas, Samsung managed to screw up everything for me. Need to start looking for another.

Looks like it might be a another year with the old S4.
I might start calling this phone "grandpa"

If you don't like the edge screen then WTF did you get an S7 edge???

back to the OP, I figured the Note 7 would be an S7 with a pen.

There's still rumors floating around that they'll release a flat screen version some time later.

There's a T-Mobile store close to my house that I may pop into the next couple weeks and see if they have a model I could look at.

I'm still running a note 2 and since my student budget doesn't allow for frivolous spending I'm stuck with it until I finish school next year. I love the note series but am not too keen on those wrap around edge screens.

Well, it's a boring phone - but I'm not sure what they could've done to make it more interesting.

There are a few improvements over the S7 edge. A pen, USB Type-C, iris scanner, HDR support and supposedly better underwater usage.

Except maybe making it 6", I'm not sure what else they could've significantly improved. A better CPU? maybe just slightly. More RAM? It's the same resolution, so I'm not sure what 5+ GB RAM would've added? A bigger Battery? A DAC like the HTC10?

What would make some people here excited?

The only really disappointing thing is the edge-only.

Iterative design as expected for the tail end of a 2 year cycle. Not the superphone folks were hoping for but a worthy upgrade for Note 4 owners IMO.

- I'm finding stock S7 Edge battery life to be in the ballpark of a custom ROM, rooted Note 4 with a ton of optimizations and easily better than the Note 5. So if you're coming from a stock Note 4, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the battery life of the Note 7.

- 64GB standard internal storage is a nice plus + mSD of course

- I'm actually a bit surprised how many early reviews talk about the improved build quality over the S7 Edge and the even more polished design. Less of a curve + equal symmetry on the edges from top to bottom seem to make a small but noticeable difference. I think it's the final, top evolution of their glass and metal design.

That being said, I'm not sure most people wouldn't be better off with a cheaper S7 Edge unless they really use the S-pen, really want the slightly larger screen, or are in the market for the 64GB S7 Edge in which case the price difference isn't that significant.

The S-pen and 64gb internal storage are the only real draws for me with this phone. I'd even have to buy a new Gear VR.

I'm using a Note 4 right now after a small stint with a Droid Turbo 2 (a phone I really liked) solely because of Gear VR.

I was actually thinking of moving to a Moto G4 Plus 64gb and just relegating my Note 4 to a VR device, or selling it and getting a used S6 Edge for VR.

Looks like Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro or Redmi Pro for me then, I can't be dealing with the edge screen. The rest is great, just a shame Samsung have lost a 6 year customer.

What did you expect in less than 6 months of development?

Seriously, Note people are expecting unicorn farts.

Too bad. I was hoping for a bit more myself. Definitely going with the HP x3 now. Thought the N7 would've been a tab larger and a few more new features. Not sure what exactly, that's what we pay cell phone manufacturers for.

I mean, they could've stuck in a Snapdragon 821 (like what the Nexus 2016 is getting) and improved the camera. It's literally the same CPU, GPU, RAM, and camera as the S7 / S7 Edge.

It used to be that people who bought the S-series (S5 and S6), the following Note was a step up in just about everything. This generation? The S7 buyers can still be happy about not waiting for the Note 7 since there's really no compelling reason to "upgrade".

They got 5+ months of guilt-free usage and can continue to use the S7 without feeling that they are compromising anything.
