The base S22 is the most powerful compact android flagship available and with no plastic back. Looks like it's finally time to buy a new phone, my LG G6 is not cutting it in 2022.
Yeah, I finally had to replace my G6 (which was great in it's day) with my pixel 6. I am thinking of switching to the small S22 since my pixel has a few things that drive me crazy like the FP reader. And honestly, I think the camera on my G6 took better pictures than the highly touted pixel.

If you do switch, be aware the regular s22 battery is smaller this year and people report not very good battery life on the base s22 model. The + and ultra have better battery life than the pixel 6 and 6 pro at least from my experience.

I ordered one from Samsung.com. Why does it take so long for it to ship? I think they quoted mid-April for shipping.

Edit: Regular S22 (pink gold)

My guess is part shortages. I know Apple frequently grapples with iPhone shortages on launches, but that's usually due to sheer demand rather than serious shortfalls in production. And let's be honest — as popular as the Galaxy S family is, it's rarely so popular that everyone is tripping over themselves to get one.

It doesn't help that sites like Anandtech didn't even write a story about or cover the release of the phone or the new S8 series tablets, let alone do a review of either of them. I know the site has had some changes in staff but coverage here is a far cry from the glory years when Anand presided over
things.

BTW I noticed that delivery estimate changes on a daily basis, so I called them to complain about my late delivery. Got 5% discount on my order. Hah.

I got an S22. Lots of microstutter on home screen and settings app. I am in shock. Is this 2015?

I've never seen 82c on a mobile device during regular stuff. On this phone the highest I've seen is 87C during app installation. I am sure mobile chips can get toasty under Prime95, but for a normal day-to-day operation I have yet to see such a high temp.

Microstutter, and now high temps?!? Me thinks you need to call Samsung to see what you need to do to get a repair or replacement.

I got the S22 Ultra and it was awesome used it for nearly a month and now I'm giving it to my brother so I might get the OnePlus 10 Pro!

This... is a very strange thing to do. The S22 Ultra will take better photos and is overall the nicer phone... why give it to your brother?

I had the original Samsung Galaxy phone when nobody knew what it was. I had the original play station (1995) the day it was released when nobody knew what it was. I can' afford a Samsung Galaxy S22.

Which original Galaxy phone?

Many people think it's the Galaxy S, and that was definitely Samsung's most important early Android phone. But I remember trying the Galaxy Spica from 2009, which launched roughly alongside the regular Galaxy)... my, did Samsung have a lot to learn then. I don't think Apple even broke a sweat.

I still have my Samsung Behold 2. It was my first Android Samsung phone besides the Samsung G1 that my job had me use briefly. I loved the Behold 2.

Late 2009 was when Android vendors finally seemed to get their act together. Although the Behold 2 was also a portent of headaches to come when Samsung said it wouldn't update the phone past Android 1.6 Donut... half a year after the device arrived. As nostalgic as we get for those early days, I don't miss the "abandon the phone as quickly as possible" mindset of Android vendors at the time.

I remember that well. I had to sideload FROYO on my Tmobile Galaxy S as they only released it for a couple of weeks then pulled and cancelled all future updates on that. I still have it but the OS and apps are so old it won't even connect to the internet any more!

It was the original Galaxy S phone. Then it went S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7,S8,S9,S10 and I think they started making up numbers after S11 and S12.

No, they went to 20 after the 10. Aping Apple I believe.

Well, yes and no. Apple skipped iPhone 9, but it didn't jump an entire 10 model numbers! I also suspect the reasons were somewhat different. Apple wanted to mark ten years of iPhones (maybe even 'catch up' on model numbers) and signify how much of a break the iPhone X was from past models. Samsung... well, I suspect it was tired of constantly sitting behind Apple in model numbers.

I'm sure that's part of it. Though the model numbers are now following the year they came out.

I really hate Roman numerals for product numbers. I always say "X" and not "10" no matter how often I'm told that's wrong.

To Samsung's credit, I will say that It makes sense that S22 is the 2022 model, S21 is the 2021 model etc.

I was thinking of buying this but there is no clear benefit to an upgrade, especially since I've configured my S10+ to my liking already and I like having the micro SD slot. Is the camera significantly better?

It is better, but I wouldn't rush in if you're happy with your S10+ at the moment. You'd be getting a lot of "oh, that's nice" upgrades rather than some obvious how-could-I-live-without-it improvements. With that said, I'd definitely be eying the S23 next year if I were in your position.
