It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it's something nice to have especially in a social setting -- you don't have to keep bringing the phone to peoples ears. T

The newer dual speakers haven't really took that much space on the phone like 6P, but I think Samsung should've gone the same route as HTC 10 -- putting front facing speaker on the headphone, and let the bottom be another speaker or "subwoofer." -- Miss opportunity.

i had a chance to use an S8 + today. Its obviously smooth and has high specs.

I have an S7 for work, and a bunch of other phones and i'll just say that this phone is just impressive. feels like a smaller note 7 especially the more seamless edges where the screen meets the frame. just feels like barring any problems this is going to be the phone to beat this year

LIsten to it next to a G6 high tones are missing and distortion is pretty bad.

Because of all the things we want in a smartphone, dual speakers are the least important. I had an Xperia z3, an HTC m8 and have an iPhone 7. They all sound crappy. My main driver is a note 7 and iPhone 7 and I rarely use the speaker for anything. Seriously, stereo speakers in a phone is a waste of space and resources.
Finally someone said it. I hate to be one of those 'just because I don't use it or care, I don't see how anyone else does' types ...

...but I can't imagine the situation where I care about one set of ABSOLUTE SHIT sounding phone speakers vs. another. They ALL sound like crap. I can't really imagine the situation where I'm considering the nuances of which crap sounds less crappy than other crap.

I watch movies and listen to music on my phone... but not using the crap speakers. That'd make music for certain unbearable.

If in a social situation or home I'm not gonna group watch or listen to anything on a damn phone.

I know... I know... just becuse I don't...

But I can't fathom that many people spend any amount of quality media time (and certainly not more than one person) listening to crap phone speakers. Even if a phone was all there was for entertainment ... plug in a set of speakers.

It's what the kids do! Listen to shit YouTube videos together on public transport.

I'm with you lot, if you want decent quality plug in some headphones, if you want to share music with a group get a decent Bluetooth speaker, if you don't give a shit about the quality and its just a video of a cat falling off a sofa or some shit then whatever crap phone speakers you have will be quite adequate.

Pre-ordered in a Best Buy store.

1) On VZW - can you tether your 4G connection as a wifi hotspot without using 3rd party apps?
2) They said it's store-pickup (on the 21st) only... is this because I didn't order online?
3) Why does their online show $29.83/mo.? link That's only $715.92. I thought it was supposed to be $750, at $31.25/mo? My pre-order form has no pricing on it but the guy mentioned $850-$100 for the preorder.
4) Is tax supposed to be on the full price or after -$100?

1.) for current plans I believe all the carriers have Hotspot included now. ATT does for sure, and I'm nearly certain only Verizon customers on grandfathered old plans wouldn't have it included.
2.) Delivery was an option when I ordered online, but it might just be too soon before release to guarantee you'd get it on time.
3.) Not sure, seems like you're getting a better price for some reason. ATT pricing works out to the full 750, so maybe there's a Verizon deal going on. Take it and run =P

You're right, I just tested Mobile Hotspot on my wife's S7. All this time we didn't know and I can get rid of FoxFi.

EDIT>> called the store and they confirmed it's $29.83/mo. ($715.92), but tax will be against $839.99.

I'm pretty excited for the new phone. Counting down the days now, and I've been working enough overtime that I might even be able to skip friday altogether and get to best buy early

Preordered the cricket s8+ from walmart. Paid in full but it seems to be the best deal at $759?
Anyway for whatever reason wally world says the phone won't be delivered until the 25th. Hopefully it gets here sooner.

Best buy gives 100 off the s8+ which makes it 750

Was the first time I pre-ordered at BB vs directly with my carrier (or Apple for my wife). I'm a bit worried as they state there's no guarantee you'll get it on launch day.

^ now you got me worried about it - they said to pick it up at the store on the 21st, but the pre-order receipt they give you says Reserved - will notify us by email when the item is available. I don't think I'm going to be waiting for an email before I go... would you?

I've never gotten a release-day phone before. I can't imagine it would be as crazy at Best Buy as a line around the building of an Apple store. Who's done BB for a Samsung phone?

Well they also state they fulfill based on first come first serve so depending on how many orders they got for a store and the supply given to that store, I can surely see them not being able to fulfill all orders on launch day.

Now I ordered at 12:18AM so I'm pretty confident I'm high up in the queue, but I can also see them screwing it up and giving phones to people who show up first. As my local BB is 24hrs, I wonder when they'll start notifying users for pickup.

No way would I pay full price for any phone, especially a Samsung. They always drop significantly in price if you dont mind buying used

That is the smart thing to do.
Unfortunately I don't have those kinda wits about me.
4 years ago I splurged on Galaxy S4.
Now I splurged on its replacement.

At least I get good mileage out of my bad decisions.

I never use a phone longer than 6 months. Its a sickness I tell you. Every 6 months I get the S then 6 months after that I get the Note. And somewhere in between I get the latest iphone (for work only). I usually sell off or give away to family, the prior S and/or Note phone. The Note 7 I am currently using has been the longest I have used on particular phone and I am already looking forward to the Note 8 and I havent even received my S8+ yet! I need help. Oh, I also get the latest LG phones in the middle of all this, but for some reason I always have a hard time selling them off.

Samsung paid me almost 1000 to turn in my note 7. It was originally 859 I think but after several delays they ended up sending me 959, I bought it off Craigslist with a bunch of extras for 600

Holy crap
lol

At least you are selling them when you are done.
If it weren't for the lack of wifi calling support on the S4 (without from having to use google voice) and something else I would have to force my self to remember I'd probably would have stuck the with S4 another year or 5.

That's much better than most. I've barely gone through my full 2 years on a phone. About halfway through ownership I think "this is the one I'll use for years!" and sure enough a few months later it starts having issues and I get the itch to replace it. Maybe the s8 will last... I doubt it but lets see.

Exactly. I always say, especially to my SO, this phone will last me for years!. Nope. Right now I have an S7 Edge, iPhone 7 (128gb), Note 7, LGv20, Lgv10 that is in my current rotation and around 15 other various smartphones. Oh, and don;t get me started on tablets and laptops. I have a few dozen of those as well.

What's funny is that I've rarely had that happen with iPhones... they're usually issue-free through at least a couple of years. I upgrade because the hardware has advanced far enough that there'll be a tangible benefit to spending all that cash, not because I run into hiccups with what I have.

That isn't to say this kind of behavior is exclusive to iPhones. Nexus and (presumably) Pixel phones tend to hold up well so long as the latest OS update isn't too burdensome. The LG V10 I have has been pretty good about working well in the long run, too. It's just that OS decay and other long-term issues don't seem to be that prevalent in iOS, in my experience.

Its not that the phone dont perform well, its that I always get the update itch bug. The only phone that I actually updated quickly due to performance problems was my purple Droid Razr. That thing was a dog.

Ah, I see. I hear you! This year promises to be particularly 'bad' for that itch given the huge upgrades to displays among the major players. It may be the first time in several years that I upgrade my iPhone relatively quickly. And if I was relying on a two-year-old Samsung phone, I'd probably be tripping over myself to get an S8 right now.
