Anyone know if there's a way to get the phone to sync faster with gmail? Email comes in quick enough but when I delete an email from the Gmail app, I can still see it for a good 5+ minutes through my desktop Gmail. I swear it was near instant on my Note 3 <-> desktop. Android version issue?

I thought I saw an option on the phone to sync [something] every X minutes but can't find it anymore.

Gmail works through PUSH/IMAP on Android, so there is no option for periodic checks -- other emails just use IMAP, so they need periodic checks.

So it should be near instant then? I guess my desktop refresh was just delayed for some reason.

Right now my only gripe is the sound quality, or maybe it's the built in equalizer. I'm used to the google music equalizer on the 6p, but when I hit "equalizer" in the google music app it brings up the built in phone one. I don't think it sounds good, and I haven't been able to get the bass response I'm used to hearing.

No phone, IMO, utilizing built-in music apps, sound good. PowerAmp.

From a S7 edge owner perspective:
I saw the S8 and S8+ the other day and the phones look amazing aesthetic wise.
Samsung pretty much eliminate most of the bezels.
After having the S7E for over a year, I just want a flat phone again.
Another problem for me is that Samsung decided to change the screen ratio. Thats a big miss for me. The S8+ is a 6.2" but same width as my Edge. So the real estate I'm gaining is length wise. I don't see hows that helping me if I'm looking for a bigger phone than my Edge.
This reminds me when Apple went from the IP4 to IP5 and the screen got bigger only length wise.
I mean in the time that I've had my S7 edge, never once did I thought to myself that I wish I had more real estate length wise. But I always wonder about having a wider phone which would help tremendously when browsing the web.

Just addressing your "I just want a flat phone again." comment...although both the 8 and the 8+ are technically "edge" phones, the edge on the 8's are FAR less pronounced than on the 7's.

I use poweramp, but I also use google music and it sounded better on the 6p. The onlything different is the use of the built in samsung equalizer. Didn't know if it could be disabled, but I don't see the setting.

I use the BETA version of poweramp, OMG, the audio output settings are amazing. Any decent headphones with my FiiO A3 amp sounds freaking great.

The LG V10 sounded good with the built-in player, and with plenty else when using the DACFix.

The TubeAmp effect on the Note 3 I had before sounded not too bad I thought. If you used much else though it would quickly go bad.

Which is the best choice of color? I am confused between Coral Blue and Orchid Gray
If you plan on putting a case on it it won't matter as you won't see the color anywhere with a case on it. I myself went with Orchid gray.

Finally bit the bullet and did a factory reset to get rid of the "DQA keeps stopping" nonsense.

Is that guaranteed to work? I don't want to start all over, and I don't see it so often that it's a major annoyance (yet). But if it's a guaranteed fix then it might just be worth it for the few times a day I see it.

I didn't want to, but had to get a case. The phone is too slick, and kept falling out of my pockets. I wear gym shorts a lot. Sitting down, it's slipped right out a few times and I didn't know it. Got something a little rubbery to stop it. Tried to get the slimmest I could. Problem solved I guess.

Still really enjoying the phone. Similar to my 7 Edge, but so much better.

Personally, I'd try putting a skin on it. I put a D-brand white carbon skin on just the back of my S7e and its perfect. Gives it the nice grippy back without adding so much as a hairs width of fugly bulk to the device. Makes it look nicer too as I've never cared much for the dull flat backs of Galaxy devices since the S6.

Like others I installed the patch a few nights ago and ended up with that stupid annoyance. After trying the clear cache crap, it still came back, I decided to wait for the patch and skip the work arounds (shit off wifi\install apps to close etc etc). I checked out Samsung forums and Verizon forums and all the chatter and noticed one little post where someone said issue is related to patch install being wonky and a factory reset gets rid the issue.

So far, that seems to be the case. Haven't gotten the popup since I did the reset last night.

Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with Gmail on these. I've got GMail setup on my S8, Galaxy Tab S2, and I access it through the web at home on my PC. Changes made on the S8 are NOT being synced to the server in a timely manner.

1) Delete email on S8. It is still showing up on other clients hours later.
2) Delete different email on Tab S2 (devices sitting literally next to each other, both on the same TMo service), changes are picked up by the S8 on next refresh.
3) Tab S2 still sees the emails that were deleted on the S8 prior to the emails being deleted on the Tab S2.
4) Website reflects the same info as the Tab S2.

Have been trying between different clients on my 7, outlook has a noticeable lag while the samsung client seems the quickest.

Seriously, I'm befuddled by the battery life. Every phone I've had that's had "good" battery life, including the S7 Edge, would normally get about 3.5 hours SOT across a day's use (7am-11pm) purely on cellular coverage (don't use wifi at work). With mail, FB, and other common apps syncing, I'd end the day with the battery close to dead 5% if I didn't charge mid-day. No way it would get through heavier usage without a top up.

My S8+ is sitting at just over 4 hours SOT (mostly web browsing) at 7am-9:30pm and is still at about 50%. This has been consistent since the day I've gotten it. Somehow what always was the highest battery drainers (Android System and Android OS, along with Screen) on other phones is held very well in check.

Whether this is a trend of all S835 phones I don't know, but I'm VERY impressed.

I think this might be attributed to Samsung actively closing apps that aren't used. Are you using the full resolution or one step down?

The battery tests I've seen haven't shown much difference in battery life at different resolutions.

Could be the former. I am running at the highest resolution (changed it in settings on day 1). No abnormal optimizations from me either besides deleting/disabling some stock apps I don't use.

I also stream music via Bluetooth a couple hours each day as well as have a Gear S3 connected. Auto brightness. Otherwise pretty normal use on LTE in Manhattan.
