About to pull the trigger on an unlocked S8 this weekend. (Bestbuy) Is there anything I need to be aware of?

I hear ya, I already have 2, one from the Note 4 and one from the S7 Edge. Play with it for a bit, collects dust on the shelf. Hopefully this one is more comfy. I wear glasses and have an astigmatism in my right eye that the GearVR doesnt correct so I need to keep on my glasses. Can anyone confirm if we can install VR and its apps to the SD card? I hated having to use the phones internal storage.

The oculus all itself no. Finally some apps are being updated to be able to run on the SD card. It's very new so most still do not yet however.

No idea about the last one but if the first two are after restarts, then probably intentional. I believe the volume one is a legal requirement in a bunch of markets.

Volume limit has a timer, that's not a bug

Not sure what you mean by the last one... I haven't seen anything with Samsung voice

I went with the LG V20 over the 8+ today. Let's see how it feels after a week.
You'll hate it. I got the v20 when I was gonna turn in my note 7. I went back to the note 7 and the v20 is collecting dust. Loving my s8+ tho. Have no issues with it.

what did you hate about it, it seems nice so far in limited use and it powers my earbuds nicely.

I don't like the stupid non-changeable Bixby button on the 8+ and the Samsung UI

The screen, imo, is Meh at best. The camera, imo, is mediocre. The quad dac is hit or miss depending on type of headphones. Never got it to work properly.

I'm going to test the camera today. Going to a bunch of places that will be bright and darker. The reviews were all over the place for the camera. I do like that it has a wide angle 2nd camera. So far the quad dac works with my Dunu DNn2000J's which is all I need it for. I'm not going to like it if I have to go on and turn on the quad DAC everytime I stick in the earbuds, that would be annoying.

The screen is good. Some things about IPS screens are good just as AMOLED has it's advantages. LG is switching to AMOLED but not the V20. I think I can deal.

Edit: I tested the quad DAC. It turns on automatically when I plug in my Dunu's. So that's good. My Nexus 6P had the worst audio so this is refreshing.

The bixby button is changeable. Not an official feature, but something that doesn't even require root to accomplish. Hope you don't come to regret your decision...I have yet to have a friend buy a 2nd LG phone after their experiences with their first one

I got the S8 with a LED wallet case on launch day here in Denmark. That phone is so epic Not a single stutter, camera launches instantly and makes pictures instantly too (vs my Z5c which became a huge annoyance to use... even after a factory resets!). Beautiful pictures too! Battery life is at least equally as good as on my Z5c. And that screen... oh my god, I tried going back to the Z5c after a week or my old HTC One M8... impossible They just feel like phones from a different era. Everything is super zippy on the S8, the phone doesn't get hot like the Z5c... I love wireless charging too! I'm really happy with the purchase. And that screen filling almost the entire phone... just perfect

A friend of mine got an S8+ and he loves it too (he also got the latest Samsung tablet to go with it). His last phone was a Sony Xperia Z3. The S8+ size is perfect for him just like the S8 is perfect for me.

It's my first Samsung phone and I'm not disappointed at all

Taking the phone out of the case reminds me of just how thin and sleek this phone really is. Can anyone recommend a slim case that's really easy to throw on and take off just for around the house? I normally use a wallet case for outside so it's super thick.

Maybe take a look at the Icarercase? I had one for the S7 Edge and like it a lot. Super easy to take off and on and it protects the screen as well. It's lightweight and looks nice too.

I've got the S7 Edge since a year ago and with my bill payment today I'm apparently eligible for an upgrade since I've paid 50% of my phone off so I'm gonna go in after work and see about getting an S8+. I love my S7 Edge but hell if I can upgrade to an S8+ for a few bucks more a month why the shit not? Just doing my part to keep the economy going.

Sounds like the battery is noticeably better on the new S8? That's great to hear. I think the S7 Edge battery is pretty great (though it's gone downhill since I originally got it) so I'm sure I'd be pleased with the new one. I wonder if there's anything to that 80% charging thing, now that I'm getting a new phone?

LOL. I never thought that about it but maybe I should sharpie a big dong on my case so people aren't wondering.

Well regardless of the man-card factor, a case like that isn't simple enough to use as an around-the-house encasement, mostly because of the cover (or the bulk it adds if kept open). I was hoping for a very thin glass-look case or similar. Practicality-wise, I just want a non-slip grip and it being very thin.

On another note, I just got my Gear VR yesterday and I took the phone out of the case once again. The phone is so beautifully thin, I hate having a case on it at all.

Got my VR yesterday as well. I can almost wear my glasses in this one. Controller is hit or miss. Still can't lay down and center properly. But, yea, taking the phone out of the case to use the VR made me wish I didn't need a case to begin with.

Got mine as well, pretty fun actually. Very good deal for being free, I am enjoying it so far. Diving a little deeper this weekend.

It hardly adds any bulk, just a couple millimeters maybe, even with the top open (and tucked under the phone; it's held by a weak magnet). Trust me, if this was a bulky case I would not have it because I hate bulky shit.

I actually agree with you on hating having a case on the phone at all. The phones are so nice it's a damn shame. I'm careful and take care of anything I own, especially electronics and my phone, but no matter what the phone will get dropped. I dropped my S7 twice, IIRC. Thanks to the case when I brought it into Verizon two days ago to upgrade it looked brand-frickin-new even though it was a year old.

I've been having some unusual battery drain since yesterday, can't figure out why. I tried out some process manager that somebody recommended, but I didn't like it and uninstalled it. Not sure if something happened there, or if the timing is just coincidental

I had that several different times on my S7 Edge. I never did log the battery percentage lost and time elapsed so I have no evidence, but I swear it has happened multiple times. It seemed to coincide with app updates via the Play Store, when it did happen, though of course not every app update caused it.

I think if I see it again on my new S8+ I'm gonna log everything carefully to see if it ain't just in my noggin.

It's not just my noggin, but the question is what actually caused it. Restarts haven't seemed to help, and I've uninstalled a few apps but we'll see what happens.
