Nice, except for the 16GB storage. My minimum is now 32GB. A mSD slot does not fully alleviate that issue because it only stores random files, can't be used for apps and I wouldn't want to even if I could put apps on the mSD as I don't always keep the card in my tablet.

If they had a 32GB version I would seriously consider returning my Note 10.1 for it.

Could you tell us how much free space it has of of the box?

I've been deciding back and forth between the Nexus 7 (2013) and this also. I'd only really use it in bed for Netflix and quick browsing so the $160 cost difference is a huge deal. I think I would like the sd slot for future-proof reasons though. Not really liking the large Nexus 7 bezel either.

I'd like your thoughts on full battery life between the 2 when you get a chance to use it more. I only have the original ipad (too big & heavy) that has the battery life I am envious of.

If there was a Google Play edition, I would get it.

I'd also consider the G Pad Google Play edition, but it is too expensive IMHO.

I haven't checked XDA yet for the G-Pad specifically, but other OEM devices can be converted into GPe devices with some work. The LG Gpad comes on sale for 225-250 somewhat regularly.

^ LG Gpad is on Android 4.2.2 which is the same as my Galaxy Nexus phone. Can it be updated? It's missing TRIM (4.3) which I desperately want (need) since it feels so much slower than when I first got it. I couldn't live with another 4.2.2 device that can't be upgraded.

Also, it's selling for nearly $350, where do you see a $100 off that often?

This is hands down the nicest device I've ever owned. Samsung completely redid the UI with tablet in mind. The screen is to die for. Touchwiz is improved and is no where near as fugly. Device is fast. Camera on this tablet is better than my smartphone.

We have a winner. Now to get a case.

The GPe is 350. Newegg has had the LG version for sale at 250 a few times, most recently last week but with a 25 dollar coupon code, bringing it to 225 with free shipping.

Not sure what you mean in the first sentence though, the Gpad shared no common specs with the Galaxy Nexus other than the Verizon Gnex being stuck on 4.2.2, which is due entirely to Verizon.

I've been on the fence. Pulled the trigger on this, a 64gb card and a case.
I was down to the pro or the nexus 7. Saw the pro in best buy next to the nexus. There is no comparison on the screen. I was sold.

I want to get a tablet and deciding between this Samsung and LG's G Pad, which is roughly half the price. Any compelling reason(s) why I should get the Samsung instead of the LG? Is it worth the extra $250?

Congrats on being completely happy with your purchase. It's a rare, great feeling when you get a device that you don't have any major issues with. In the last couple years, probably the only two things for me that met that threshold was once I rooted my Note 3 and a Haswell MBP with Retina display.

All my other purchases from the last couple years have been good but always with some deficiencies for my use - whether it be my iPad Air, Galaxy Gear, LG G2, Note 2, Pebble, S4, Nexus 7, Nexus 4, S3, iPhone 4S.

Nice tablet! It amazes me that the same resolution as my Note Pro 12.2 is packed into the Tab Pro 8. If there's a better screen on a tablet I'd like to know what it is. Very cool.

BTW your screencaps don't seem to work.

Yes - The screen is amazing. Colors are great.

Here are the screencaps. Nothing really, just showing the new Samsung look.

I realize each tablet can only be shipped at a certain Android OS version. What I'm asking is can the LG and all other tablets be updated to the latest (kitkat now) right out of the box after purchase? Or do we have to wait for pushes like on cellphones?

Have to wait just like a cell phone. (unless you want to flash a custom AOSP rom or convert to GPE)

The new Samsung Tablets (Pro Tabs) come with 4.4.2 out of the box.

^ so the LG Gpad is indeed stuck on 4.2.2 for the foreseeable future? The reason I brought up my GNex is because on that same OS version it has gotten bogged down with using & clearing storage space over the years and I don't want a repeat of that.

Separate question - I don't think it could, but will that happen if I used/re-used the space on my sd card instead?

And is there a noticeable performance hit playing vids/music off the sd card vs. native storage?

Officially yes - for now. It's rumored to be getting 4.4.2 sometime before summer. You could convert it to a Google Play Edition though to get 4.4.2 now. (Or just buy the GPE)

I am going to return mine because 16GB just isn't going to work for me as much as I've tried. While its generally a very nice tablet there are some operational things that are annoying and shouldn't be. While trying to simplify things, Samsung has removed some features which I liked, primarily being lockscreen widgets; it has none as it was removed compared to their older tablets. Also the screen colour is still a bit too vibrant for me and I had always used Samsung's various display profiles to adjust my liking. I'd usually select Movie profile which looked best to me across numerous Samsung devices. Well, screen profiles also removed... And finally I simply do not like Magazine UI, its just a glorified widget for Flipboard. If they brought in a Google Play Edition with 32GB I'd seriously re-evaluate it.

16GB for Apps, MicroSD for Storage. Not an issue for me.

Install Nova Launcher if you don't like it.

We are not all the same I will admit, good luck on your search.

Wow surprised they removed lockscreen widgets, though I suppose most people don't lock/unlock their tablets as much as phones. Still, no reason to remove.

I thought this is a LCD screen with pretty good accuracy? I'd think AMOLED movie mode would be the closest to the stock display.

This may be a difficult question to answer, but did you feel any noticeable difference from the higher resolution compared to the dell venue pro(even accounting for slightly larger screen size)? Especially when reading.

Basically the only thing that holds me back about the tablet is the price. The LG 8.3 tablet, where I live, is a good 100 dollars cheaper and it got a 1080p screen as well as no pen(I couldn't care less). The screen colors and the brightness, from what I've seen from YT reviews comparing the two, is heavily in favor of the 8.4 but if that's the only thing I wouldn't pay 100 dollars extra. But what is your experience with the higher resolution on reading, do you feel any difference at all?

If its really all that important just install widget locker or similar.

I love the color and quality of the Galaxy Pro screens. To me it rivals the retina display on my rMBP. To each his own I guess.

Yes, very interested in this tab but am hoping there will be a 32GB version available in the USA. It doesn't look like there will be versions with more internal storage than that anywhere and I fear the USA will only see the 16GB version.

That said, being able to pop in a 64GB uSD card and very likely one of the just released 128GB uSD cards will provide a decent amount of storage -- enough for a decent amount of good, low compression, HD video.

Anyone know if it comes with NFC?
