I know this device is no where near cutting edge, but I got it for 199 from Verizon with a two year contract. Honestly I'm loving this device. I never even open my laptop anymore. I carry this with me everywhere. Verizon 3g isn't the best but it works good enough for the few situations where I don't have wifi.

Honestly this is the size and form factor for tablets.

Many reviewers have said that 7" is what you want if you're on the go and that 10" is better for at home.

Sorry but the original Tab is a lagfest.
I wouldn't touch an Android tablet unless it has honeycomb.

It's nice, but it ain't $960 total cost of ownership nice. I'm enjoying my $185 hacked nook color.

Lol. That totally reminds me of my friend who loves that I put Launcher Pro on his Xoom (just like my non-Honeycomb Nook Color), because in his opinion it is "way less laggy."

Honeycomb is no silver bullet.

Lagfest? It's obvious you haven't used Tab /w Gingerbread.

I would take the original Tab over any current Honeycomb tablet or iPad1 & 2. I have no experience with the Playbook or WebOS so I won't comment on those.

Overall I have been very pleased with the performance of this device. Currently running launcher pro with better keyboard and I really haven't noticed any significant lag. I find from the moment I hit the power button to the second I am viewing web content it is much much faster on my tab then any of my PC's.

Im not running launcher pro because the stock is just as fast and smooth if not faster than launcher pro. Im running 2.3 stock Gingerbread /w Chainfire kernel.

I traded my Tab for my iPad2... The 7 inch form factor is slightly more portable, but at he sacrifice of tons of screen real estate. I'm really looking forward to the 8.9 tab... That could be the perfect compromise, we shall see.

GB is superfast on the Tab. It's like using another device. I tested my AT&T Tab with 2.3.3 and T-Mobile Tab with 2.2 side by side because I thought I was just imagining things. You'll love it when and if it's ever released. It's way faster than any custom rom I've put on my Vibrant /w Voodoo. My Vibrant lags even /w Voodoo and custom rom.

Galaxy Tab owner here... I take it with me everywhere I go, the form factor is perfect for travel and I use much more than I dared to hope at first (I struggled against making this an impulse buy).

Now all I need is to get Skype with video to work... which would probably require a 2.3.3 update, either official or from XDA.

I have a tab at home with gingerbread on it with Overcome ROM and love it. No lag whatsoever. I got the 3g 16gb version(refurb) through ATT for 199 no contract.

Sadly out of the box it is not worth much of anything but with a quick root and change of rom it does a stellar job! I would def take it over a nook color. nothing wrong with a nook color but I have found the TAB to be a better experience.

I think comparing this to an ipad is not fair. I think they have two different applications. Ipad for home, Tab for on the move. We take it out on our boat as a GPS device and it is perfect form for it. for the boaters out there Tab+$15 Navionics app=best GPS out.

Its surprising to me but this is still the best seven inch device on the market

I don't know about that. HTC Flyer is supposed to be pretty good. Then there's the PlayBook. But the geek in me love the phone feature of the Tab even though I rarely use it.

Keep in mind there's a big difference between the WiFi Tab and the 3G Tabs. The WiFi models are only about half as fast. OP has a 3G model.

And as has been discussed in many many many threads now, the UI lag is caused by Samsung's TouchWiz UI. Not sure if the Tab uses the RFS file system or not. But, both of these deficiencies are easily corrected. Lag gone.

Tab uses RFS filesystem yet it doesn't cause lag even when downloading and installing multiple apps. Im using stock Touchwiz in the Tab with stock launcher and it's the smoothest experience Ive had with any Android device. Like I said it's much faster and smoother than my Vibrant running Trigger rom with Bali Voodoo kernel and Launcherpro.

I got a 3g tab from t-mobile and was impressed with it. Had I been able to keep it at the refurb $99 price, without a two year contract, I would have kept it. They wouldn't honor the no-contract plan, so I sent it back.

It was nicer than the Nook Color, for sure. Having two cameras and an GPS would be nice, and the build quality just seemed better. The difference is certainly not worth another $30 a month to me, though. If I can snap up a 3g tab for ~$120, I'll probably get it and make it into a car computer.

A 7" tablet has no business having a retail price of $500. The Flyer could be awesome, but who cares?
