I set my budget at $100, I quit either I lost all or up $100. Most of the time I quit when I am ahead.

I usually don't bet too much, and I feel that the $20 I put down is for the fun of sitting in the casino wasted and playing for a little while. So I almost never quit when I'm ahead.

1) I start with a set amount I'm prepared to lose. I never add to that. If I lose all of it, I'm done, and it doesn't upset me because I was prepared to lose it.

2) As the game progresses, if I'm winning, I start setting "take home money." My first bracket will be my "break even" bracket. This ensures I will leave with at least the money I came with. Let's say I'm up to $100 and I came with $20. I may set a "take home" bracket at $50, meaning I will only gamble until I hit $50 and then I'm going home. I never lower my "take home money."

These two rules make gambling more fun for me.

EDIT: ^ Case 2 in just a thread of less than 20

Hate is a strong word.

I'm not pro but I win more than I lose (2-3X BB/hr) playing about 4 - 5 hours of poker online per week. I'm not really sure what your point is. Are you saying that only professionals can make money playing poker?

Obviously, in order to make money, you need to play solid poker, which most people don't bother to do. Playing poorly makes poker probably the worst place in the casino to park your money. Perhaps that is why you seem bitter?

absolutely not. I find poker (especially online) to be quite an easy way to make money. I play 50/100NL and do really well just as entertainment and a little pocket money. However, people who act like knowitalls and gods of poker do annoy me. therefore the little comment acting as if you're somehow better than others who just so happen to lose money is just annoying and condescending. I consider my poker play just an investment but I do not come in here acting like i'm the all-star player and everybody should bowdown to me.

You lost me.

Are you referring to that? How is that anything other than the truth? Poker is not rocket science. It's not particularly hard to learn how to win consistently.

BTW, so you play 50/100 NL huh? You are obviously lying. Most losing poker players do. Do you have any idea what the average pot size in a 50/100NL game is? Here is a hint...unless you are Bill Gates; it's not "pocket money".

I keep what I want to play with in one pocket and put what I "won" in another pocket. When the money to play with, pocket is empty I go home.

When I do this I was walk away with more money than I started with. When I don't do this I walk away with losing money.

I learned my lesson one night. I was up like $600 at a high stakes table and went on tilt and lost most of it.

Ever since then, I always cut loose if I feel like my head isn't in the game or if I'm just not feeling the cards.

Pardon me, I'm still laughing at gt07 who plays 50/100NL with what he considers pocket change.

A couple of guys went to the bacarrat table the other night. Went in with about $3k in chips. They had with them another $4k combine in cash. First bet, $1k. Lost that. Then doubled it with $2k and won. Then tried to push their luck with the next hand and lost.

The table has nine player areas and they played 8 of the 9 possible, each with $500 bets each. Put some more money on the table and played a $4k hand. Won that and tried to push their luck again. Same outcome. They gave back the $4k they picked up just as fast in less than 3 minutes.

Know when to quit and NEVER chase by going back to the ATM machines. DON'T try to round up your winnings, if you have $97 profit then leave. Don't try to round it up to a $100. That $3 chase you WILL regret.

A guy plays the roulette and wins $1600 from two spins (played $25 bets each number) and continues playing afterwards. Why? I'd run as fast as I can towards the door.

I used to have that self control. Won $100 each day for 17 days straight. Then the emotional factor kicked in and then all hell broke loose.
